Laundry room update with tile stenciling

Hello! For starters, I lean on Houzz folks to and always get great advice - even if the truth hurts. So, I recently added batten board to one wall in this very dull laundry room. Paint prep should be complete in the next couple of days. My thoughts were to add a stencil to the floor with a white color, paint the cabinets, paint walls, keep the counter top and add color art and/or window treatments.

Pics and thoughts below are:
Stencil thinking of using - what color would you recommend?
Batten Board wall - paint as accent or entire room - what color would you suggest to coordinate with floor
Cabinets - paint color? I want to say dark blue but not sure if that would tie into my kitchen.
How the laundry room ties into the kitchen.

This really sounds like a fun project!

If this is just a laundry room, and you do a good prep of the surface. You must rough up the surface of the tile in order for the primer and the paint to adhere, otherwise you will get peeling. Use the proper floor paint and clearcoat, it should last many years. Do not wear shoes on this floor. if you do, throw down a runner on the main walking spots.

There are many good tutorials out there. Cutting Edge Stencils has one on their site. many bloggers do to. I wouldn't use a chalk paint. use a good primer meant for tile, and a good porch paint.

why not choose something w/a bit of color? why bother to paint the tiles the same color as the tile??

Beautiful tile! Your laundry setup is exactly like mine except I'll have a sink in the cabinet just left of the machines. I vote for sealing the tiles with a matte finish for the reasons mentioned above - it will bring out the color and also protect against dirt and stains. I'd like to use a similar tile in my bathroom remodel. Are they travertine, ceramic or porcelain? They look like travertine, which I love, but I need to use a tile that's better able to withstand disinfecting cleaners so I'm looking for other alternatives that will give me the same look.

Very nice, the space even allows for front loading pedestal units for you or future home owner. I like the wall and floor tile selection. Since my laundry room moved up from the basement to off the kitchen I like doing laundry. So what if I don't have room for ironing board, sink and goobs of bins...

As you say, a lighter color on the wall will make your stained wooden shelves stand out nicely, too. Maybe the middle, richer colored stain? And, again...if it is too light, go darker. Do it in stages! Good luck! Happy that things are falling into place. Photos!!!

Thanks Johnson Brothers. What is LVT? I was hoping to buy alittle time by painting the tile and next spring have new flooring installed.

Hey Beth, thanks for that great information. I was wanting simple/easier and know looking at what you posted know what I should do. I’m going to visit cutting edge and watch more video’s. Once that’s done I go from there. I want the blue but leary about it matching my kitchen. Fingers crossed.

Stacey thank you. This laundry room is my puppies time out and room when mommy goes away. It’s needs a little bit of stylin! I’ll keep posting once I get it started.

Are you planning to move the washer and dryer out while you paint? I just painted my laundry room and kitchen with rustoleum and found it really needed an extended drying period after the clear coat. Anticipate that. I did a test coat in the tiny laundry room first and gave it 24 hours, but that was insufficient I redid everything just before we left out of town on the Thursday before President’s Day returning late Monday and that was solid. The Rustoleum product was hard to get — I had to order it and the hardware store struggled to match the black they mixed the time before. All that said, I like it a lot better than what was there and I didn’t add waste to the local landfill. Were I to have had the tile removed, the contractor claimed he’d have to replace the subfloor (old house) and I was not in the mood for that.
