Backsplash? No backsplash? What kind of backsplash?
Comments (25)didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )...See MoreTile dilemma - Back-splash
Comments (4)they sound interesting enough to me, being crackled and having variation. larger size might work..what size you consider? Gray is already considered dated lol. Makes no sense to me personally as all this dated thing is a new concept I'm still struggling with-how a color can be dated? but in terms of what happens in trends etc-it's on its way out, yes. they move into warmer tones. they're still into greiges for now to bridge between things a bit. white is becoming big as a neutral. wood stains are making a big comeback. this update on trends can go on and on but i'm sure you can find thousand threads here discussing it so i'll make it short. if you're really worried-it might be you're simply are not attached to a color enough. which is okay, really. then pick off-white. off white is pretty. Even very much so. I like both off whites and grays(I do have preference for much warmer grays though) so I have off whites and warm grays. And many other colors too since I love them too. I commit by choosing something of course,-but it's fine since commitment, paradoxically, is a road to freedom:) But I admit I was also worrying when choosing..well choosing everything except for stuff like toilets etc. Of course one worries, it's a hassle and an expense and you want to love it in the end. So. Try to worry less. If you can remove "dated" from the equation- great. Go with your heart's desire. If no-then ok, take it into equation and don't do gray. Worry less. You did a great job on everything else, so no reason to think your backsplash won't turn out well either. It will....See MoreLaundry sink without backsplash?
Comments (23)acm,,, The issue is that this is the laundry room and I don't want to spend extra $$ if not necessary (including possible repairs down the road if we leave it with paint only). My question is whether water from the sink (or laundry pipes) will be a problem - potential leaks, mold, etc. which would have been prevented by a backsplash? So, if we do NEED to add backsplash, it will likely need to be some cheap subway tile. the tiles I showed her are cheap. I asked if $50 for tile was doable. ( she would spend close to that amount for a brushes and a good mildew resistant paint) And those cheap white subway tiles can be had for as little as .18 each. As for DIY, it's not difficult. the cuts can be done with a hand cutter, or they can rent a tile saw or even borrow one. My point is, it can be done for under $100. Cheaper if you find left over tiles on Craigslist or something. Cutting around the plumbing isn't a big deal. watch some tutorials, read a 'how to cut tile' post. Geez, as a homeowner it's in your best interest to learn how to DIY the simple things. but hey, if she wants to get the backsplash piece from the countertop, or vinyl tiles, or even vinyl beadboard, whatever. I don't care, I was just showing her some other options. walmart has these peel and stick metal tiles....See MoreLaundry Room Backsplash Questions
Comments (6)tile down to the countertop above washer. no need to go further down f you can't see it. Is this the look you're after? notice the ceiling and lights. I like this one w/the bar for hanging (although it should be higher) do you need all those cabs? what if you removed one on the right end so you had a bar to hang or some shelving? I'd do a little wood shelf there too. I have one and it's nice for items as for the door wall, just paint it. or, do wallpaper on that one....See More- 3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago
