Kate, it can be easy to do! We've ordered items from the Kansas City Steak Company, so I just checked their lobster tails to compare (though we've never ordered them). It looks like the tails are 5 oz. each. This is how they're shown on their site. I looked carefully since I could see myself doing exactly the same as you.

Good grief! They have to know how misleading it is.

Many years ago there was a meat company that sent out flyers for these "deals". You get there and they say that's for the cheapest cuts of meat. How much per week do you normally spend on meat? And upped and upped the deal! We signed up for the "great deal" before they told us the final cost!

I don't remember the final cost, but it kind of flummoxed us! We would be paying for this meat for something like 12 months! (This was 30 something years ago, so details are a bit foggy!)

I saw an article in the paper about a bait and switch class action case and called the DA's office and said this is exactly what happened to us!

They called 3 or 4 times saying they were going to court and could we testify. We said sure, only to have it continued again and again!

They called and said they were finally really going to court........the week we were going on vacation!

Got home to a message that we were going to shortly receive a check for $1800 AND we got to keep all of the meat, chicken and other goodies which were actually very good quality, since they had upgraded us!

We didn't have our google back then!

NOT QUITE the same thing. But I bought a bag of what I thought were cheddar and sour cream flavored ruffles. Only to get home, open them and notice the neon red color. I actually READ the bag, and they were Flaming Hot cheddar and sour cream chips. Gross. So yes, check what you buy!

We have nearly stopped buying crab legs, lobster, and scallops just in principle due to the prices these days. Shrimp prices haven't got out of hand so we eke by with that. That being said, Aldi recently had whole 1 pound frozen lobsters for $10.99 each and I splurged and bought 4 of them. I would guess the tails were around 6 oz. each plus the claws would get you ~1/2 lb. of meat per. We had lobster rolls once and the other 2 we steamed and had surf and turf.

The Aldi frozen whole lobsters are good. I've only been to an Aldi once about 5-6 years ago---too far away. I did buy one or two lobsters. I think 9$ at that time. Once home i research the company and read about freezing un-cooked lobster. At that time my local market had fresh lobster for 7.99Lb. That market closed, bankrupt.

We have also stopped stocking a variety of seafoods. WholeFoods 365 wild caught gulf shrimp, shell-on, are excellent. 13.50lb, 2 pound bag. We always have salmon, cod/halibut.

I have Luke'sLobster meat in the freezer for rolls. But prices are jumping up. Good quality for a treat. Forget lump crab meat $$$. I just make cod cakes or salmon croquettes.

We were very happy with all our online ordering during lock-down. Using less now. But were screwed twice recently. ButcherBox. 1/2pound lobster meat 30$. I should have weighed it from the freezer, then after thawed. All water and zero lobster flavor. Mush. And their pulled pork. Shredded like deli tuna salad and just sick sweet. All that trouble making fresh slaws and pickles---perfectly toasted rolls and buns. Other meats were of high quality but will be canceling.

Our local meat share, Walden, has been excellent so will stick with them. Having cut way down on meat/poultry/seafood portions for a few years now i just order every 3-4 months.

Misfits, Walden, keep us very well fed. WholeFoods every 3-4 months. Costco every 4-6 months.

Then there's the pound box that has a big circle saying 26-30 shrimp per pound. Recently, it appeared to be on sale, half price. Great catch in plentiful waters? No. They changed it to half a pound in the same package, with just the net weight changed.

LouiseAb here. We wanted a crab feast for New Years Eve. We looked all over and finally found some at a seafood store. One fairly large king crab leg was $125.00. We passed.

I rarely splurge on lobster, so when hubs and I went out to eat last summer, our first splurge in years, I figured what the heck, I'll order the lobster tails, it will be a treat. TWO, no less, so I thought hubs and I could share. They were tiny, more like crayfish tails. Total rip off. Not even prepared that well. Kind of sad, the restaurant was an old revered one, but I think it has seen better days, on the decline. The drinks were awful too, and as I recall whatever hubs had was nothing to write home about either. And we had to wait 45 min. just to get a table, for very subpar food. We were in a restaurant foodie mecca, and overall, almost all our eating out experiences were bad. Seems like a hard time/transitional time for the restaurant business . . . not sure about lobster, but being an environmentalist, I am rarely surprised by the drop in quality and rise in price of food raw materials . . . that's actually why I became and environmentalist, to preserve the good food I love, from the land and sea!

Just recently I was in both Oakland and then Pasadena area. I am amazed at what meals cost us for subpar food. I was hungry for some good seafood... and got none... at any restaurant. The immediate response is one with Covid in the sentence; but I'm getting really tired of that being the excuse for having poor service/poor food... and higher prices.
