Supposedly "Luther" is a winner. Some co-workers love it!

I really like the British series "Doc Martin" (sleepy English town -- might not be everyone's cup of tea.)

I'm a fan of mysteries. "Midsomer Murders" is a British TV show, has wonderful scenery and quirky characters. I also like Inspector Lewis, also a British TV show, set in and around Oxford university. Bramwell is a medical show about a woman MD set in 1895 London.

A new show just started with Keifer Sutherland called "Touch". It's REALLY good! I think there's only been 5 or 6 episodes so far, and you can watch them online. I highly recommend it! Best new show I've seen in a long time.

One of my favorites is "Ringer" on CW. They just had their season finale, and I'm hoping they will be back for another season.

I liked Survivors on BBC. Netflix has 2 seasons. I think it was cancelled after that.

A deadly strain of flu kills off most of the world. A group of survivors have to survive without electricity, gas, running water, food and a government.

We love Justified I hope it stays on for a long time.It is on FX. WE also like Eureka on Scifi, it just started the new season.
Heart of Dixie is one of our new faves on the CW.

we also like Touch and Missing which are new shows on the networks.

Also: I think "Person of Interest" is quite ... interesting!

I'd start from episode 1.

Second Raven's rec for Heart of Dixie -- a cute show. I think it's kind of in the mold of Gilmore Girls, intellect and humor-wise. And for both shows, I am/was older than the target audience, and I still like them.

Harry's Law is also a very smart drama series with lots of humor. (I hope the rumor that it's being canceled -- because it truly is "One of the best shows everybody's is NOT watching"! -- is false.)

Yes we love Harrys Law too, that probably means they will cancel it.

Ditto on Justified and Person Of Interest.

Try Homeland that was/is on Showtime and also Sleeper Cell. Both great gripping shows.

From BBC MI5 and Larkrise To Candleford. There are some great shows on BBC, we are watching Whitechapel right now and are enjoying it.

I just added Bramwell to my Netflix Instant Queue, thanks to Mare's post above. I love all the other shows she mentioned.

Another GW friend told me about Eureka, which I enjoy on Netflix. It takes place in a Utah town populated by scientific geniuses. It can be lighthearted or serious.

My other favorites on Netflix include In Plain Sight (I'm trying to make this one last by not watching very often), Bones, and Downton Abbey, Frasier......none of these exactly sleepers. My cousin recommended Father Ted, a comedy about three Catholic priests living on a rather barren island off the coast of Ireland. It can be very funny, but I had to get used to the laugh track.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've added a lot to my Netflix que and plan to track down some others. I like a lot of British stuff and Touch sounds really good.

I'm probably the only one who never liked Harry's Law. Just not my cup of tea but sorry if it's being cancelled for those of you who liked it so much.

For Netflix users, I'll recommend "Terriers". It's not the very best show ever, but it's good. About a couple detectives. May not be for everyone (It's a little crude) but it's worth checking out.

I read an article on the net yesterday that said "Harry's Law" and "A Gifted Man" weren't officially canceled yet, but it doesn't look good. One of my VERY favorites "Parenthood" is holding on by a thread also. I'll be really unhappy if it's canceled.

I love the British series "New Tricks" on PBS. Everyone has already mentioned so many others.

Another vote for In Plain Site, but this is the last season, bummer. Love Burn Notice on USA network.

These may not be liked by many but I love them, they are on the SyFy channel. Being Human and The Walking Dead. Both have just ended their current season. But if you can find them online check them out.

There was a new one out last year called Falling Skies, only one season so far, it starts again in June. Not sure if it will make it but I liked it too.

It's not for everyone, an acquired taste I suppose, but those who become Dexter fans find the show incredibly fascinating and realize at some point that they are rooting for a serial killer. You'll understand why when you get to know Dexter.

Walking Dead is on AMC....good show but a lot more gore this season then the first.
Another show we like is Suits on USA...second season starting soon.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Missing" starring Ashley Judd. It is riveting. But watch it from the 1st episode --it's one of those shows you have to watch from the beginning. And "Blue Bloods" is in it's 2nd season.

Another one from the BBC: The series of mysteries "Rosemary and Thyme" (the names refer to 2 women).
I guess I'd classify this under "cozy" mysteries -- not a lot of gore or hard-core language. Not that I'm a prude, but sometimes people like to know what they're getting into!

And:
* Helen Mirren's "Prime Suspect," too; she did 7 seasons of this!
* Did you ever watch the multi-episode "Tales of the City" series on PBS several years back? I loved the books; series was good too, with Olympia Dukakis, Laura Linney.
* Or "The House of Eliott"? A BBC period piece; gorgeous costumes. Two sisters build a house of haute couture after their financial station changes and they are forced to work for a living. (Now I want to see it again!)

If anyone is a Cher fan as I am, don't miss the Cher Farewell Tour on Netflix. It is pure, over the top entertainment. I think I smiled all the way thru it. I was supposed to got to that concert but stuff happened at that time, and I wasn't able to attend.

Harry's Law is on the bubble, but it's not cancelled. Still shooting on the stage across from my office. I love the show and hope it gets picked up for next season.

Also like Dexter and The Walking Dead. Getting addicted to Grimm.

I hear The Walking Dead is great, haven't seen it yet. Lots of my friends are watching it.

I don't watch much tv, but one show I will not miss is Parenthood. If it gets cancelled, I might actually cry, lol!

I LOVE Dexter, but I'm several seasons behind. An oldie but goodie is Deadwood, if you haven't seen that. It's definitely "R rated" as far as language and sex, but it's a really good one, I think it was only two or three seasons.

I love the BBC series "Merlin." It's in its fourth season, and is shown in the U.S. on NBC.

I love Hart of Dixie. Ringer is very good too but you really have to watch it carefully. It's hard to follow and I find that frustrating sometimes.

"Boomers" on Acron tv is funny, warm and addicting.

Longmire is a good one that's on Netflix.

I very much enjoyed "The Night of" and "Stranger Things". I watched Stranger Things in one day I got so entranced. The night of kept me on the edge of my seat. My husband likes "Luther" I can't seem to get into it. I love Game of Thrones!!!!

My favorite on Netflix is "Heartland"--good show with a good family story. It's a Canadian show, now in its tenth season.

I am going to butt in the conversation to say "Longmire" on Netflix. When the network dropped it, Netflix made more shows of it. A really good show -- a modern day western. I see a couple of other people mentioned Longmire, but I wanted to super recommend it!

I just finished watching Last Tango in Halifax and am on season 3 of The fall. Both are BBC and on Netflix. Stranger Things was good too, as mimipadv stated. I am going to check out a few of the above mentioned.

SoA was an amazing show, but I had to tap out at some point (I think next to the final season) because the violence was just too unsettling.

Just started watching Goliath on Amazon. Really grabs your interest. We like Billy Bob Thornton as an actor.

I loved "Heart of Dixie" on netflix and Grace & Frankie is a hoot!

Also binging Goliath. Billy Bob is a really strange dude to me, but damn, the man can act.
