Living room design help

I would love some design advice for our living room please. First does the sectional work like this? I just flipped it. It was open to the foyer before. Second do I need to add something behind the sofa like a sofa table or maybe a sitting area? Would love your ideas! Thank so much!

Beautiful room. I would move the sectional, so it is off the rug somewhat. I would move the TV to the right of the FP so it is a better height for viewing. Not sure what purpose the 2 lights in the corners are serving. You need lighting near the sectional. A sofa table with a lamp would be nice but I would remove the shelf under the horse picture if you do a sofa table. It really should be wider than the art. Put art over the FP.

Thank you. We planned the room for the tv over the fireplace and I know some people dont like it but we love it. Ive considered getting one of the frame tvs. We sit so far back the height is actually perfect for us too. If i do the sofa table does it need to be a certain length? I thought about repurposing the table below the horse picture. Im thinking I can have it made into a freestanding table. it was a pricey RH piece and i really love it😊

The house is a ranch 30x60 it had no flow, no hallway, you moved from room to room every room had at least 2 doors in it. It had a load bearing wall splitting it in half long ways. The front door opened into living room, living room had front door, side door and 2 doors into 2 bedrooms. We had a tree fall on our house so we used this as an opportunity to reconfigure the space to include a hallway, enclosed the porch on the side for laundry and pantry, added a vaulted front porch that opens into the foyer. It was a 3/1 that we turned into a 4/2. We needed the bathroom and bedroom more than we needed a bigger living room or so we thought. Here is a before with tree on top. Lol. After is without the tree. We may need to push the the living room and kitchen wall out on the backside of the house.

Yeah, the current sectional was not intended for the space, it’s gotta go. The current dining table is expandable…the largest we could do in the space is 90” when expanded for gatherings, not daily. Also, the table is up for replacement eventually. Living room seating is the first priority. I like the idea of putting the tv where the bookshelf is but that’s far from the living room space and we’d have to rewire. Possible but more complicated. Would you do a smaller sectional or couch and chairs? We’d love to maximize seating without overcrowding the space. 🤔

I think this rug could work well for you, with your Coastal vibe - plus the tile. This rug has some light blues in the color - but the design of the rug comes across as a neutral, overall - and is very versatile. Doesn’t lock you into any particular color scheme. And it is casual, yet has a certain understated elegance, I think. You can dress it up or dress it down. If sofa can’t be reconfigured, then let’s tweak…remove the ladder, pull the sectional away from the window so the back of it aligns with vertical plane of the window cornice. Center the Klimt 6” above the sectional on that end wall. Place the tree to the right of the sectional but centered in the space between the sectional and the wall. Cat toys could go behind sectional. A fabric storage basket next to the tree could hold the extra throws. Move the framed baby footprints to the baby’s room. Move the plant that’s to the left of the fireplace to the right side and move the bromeliad plant to the left of the fireplace. Keep the two hex shelves in the same positions, relative to each other, but move them down so that the top of the green portion of the left most shelf aligns with the frame at the bottom of the tv. Paint the entry wall the same color as the rest of the room. Move the bird cage onto the cabinet with a couple hardback books placed underneath it and the coffee table plant placed inside it, if possible, with the other plant grouped with them. Group the other 3 items on the right side of the console cabinet. Then move the plant on the bottom shelf to the coffee table. A basket of baby gear or toys could go on the bottom shelf of the cabinet. Fill all 3 cubbies with storage baskets.

This is a great room. Although there might be a slew of suggestions about new furniture and placement of pieces, I think you should feel good about the way it looks. I'd add a potted tree somewhere near the doors to outside. I would also remove everything from the shelf under the horse pic and from the shelves to the right of the TV and get some bolder, more visually impactive objects to place there that have earth tones in them to relate to the colors in the sofa. Perhaps some large pottery items or nice handwoven bowls.

Kendrah- thank you so much!! The furniture is new so I hope I don’t get those comments🤣 ive strughled with this stupid shelves.I dont like clutter so i need to keep it clean and simple on them. I would love any arrangement ideas you might have.
