To me beach cottage design has more natural materials in it. It looks too modern now with too many hard edges. Maybe you can replace the giant mirror wall with broad whitewashed wooden planks, horizontally placed? Maybe have the same kind of wood on that piece of wall facing the sofa? I understand your feelings regarding the floor. Big rugs will help a lot. Your choice of material for the rugs seems fine. Am not sure about the stripes though. It might be too different from the flooring and as such compete, instead of complete. For the walls I'd choose a sandy tone of white, which is a very light greige. Maybe add some driftwood art, a beautiful big poster of the see to stare at and some beach stone elements. I'd keep my furnishings all in that not too smooth look. If going for a chandelier, my advice is to pick a robust one. Some turquoise accents might look nice here, liven things up a bit, but don't overdo it. If you like more of it, you'd better make a real statement as in part of a wall in a stained turquoise or table legs or a table top in a stained turquoise. Instead of little tidbits of turquoise strewn all over the place, robbing the tranquil feel of the place. I'm afraid the present kitchen will stand out a bit, being so shiny. Maybe that's a project for later on? Have fun with this cool project of yours!...See MoreNeed Beach House Living Room Furniture Advice
Comments (15)well, I would suggest whatever sofa you get to lay down a throw if she is going to sit bare skin on it. White is difficult to keep clean unless you keep some sort of throw on the cushions. If you got a slip covered type, you could wash them as needed. any gray sofa would also work. light gray, dark, if you could swing a velvet material, that always looks good. Or a nice material, tweed-type, like this one: If you bring in a large area rug, you can cover most of the tile floor, only letting a bit of it peed through. do a large sisal and then layer another rug on top of it for some added color or pattern you could do white or pale walls, and a dark gray sofa. this will still go w/your tile. bring in wood elements or natural fiber elements. and plants. and since it's Fla, you can get away w/bold colors. keep the wall white, a large sisal type of rug, white sofa, and bring in colors w/plants, pots and accessories like they've done here I like these paint colors....Pale Oak for walls,, White Dove or any other bright white for ceilings and trimthis is BM Lacey Pearl. I like this grayish white tone. if you bring in a slip cover sofa like this, have her lay on a throw. do neutral pillows, wood/metal coffee table, poufs, fiddle leaf fig trees, a neutral rug like this will cover the tile. you're only showing a tiny piece of your tile so it's hard to visualize what will work in this room. best way is to clear out everything, paint and go from there....See MoreHELP! Comments (12)Chess-yeah that's me - yes, that is exactly right! the owners dad built it about 70 years ago. Jamie Ludwig - I posted some additional photos that did not seem to upload before Saypoint - Was thinking I can't do seating on either side of the door because on one side you have fireplace and the other side is the entryway to the other room. We tried the sofa facing the fireplace but it did not seem to work well as it felt like you walked into the sofa when you came in. Also tried the sofa in front of the tv with the back to the door but then again felt like you walked right into the sofa and it was too close to the TV....See MoreHelp design living room of new home
Comments (18)@partim1, @havingfun No there wouldn't be a TV in this room. Please see fourth wall pic below. in that pic you can see the main entrance door on the right. The opening on the top left of pic is to Dining Room. The second picture is taken standing at the front door. There's big picture window behind those curtains. No we don't need those 2 opening on either side of the fireplace. We have another opening to get into family room behind this room. We're open to any colors i think as long as everything goes well together.seating maybe 3-4. Thanks guys....See Morekooopons
