Another cool garden visitor
Comments (4)Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is probably a Snowberry Clearwing. It was quite small, about the size of a carpenter bee, and I think you can see a suggestion of black legs in some of the photos. I really am beyond thrilled at the results of my first year butterfly gardening. I still don't have that many host plants in place, but I do have a lot more nectar plants, and I'm seeing a number of species for the first time. Not only the first time in my yard, but some are new to my life list as well. Of course, I'm a complete newbie, so that shouldn't be too surprising. Still, a spicebush swallowtail and an American lady are quite a handsome reward for one year of effort. Not to mention a whole lot more monarchs than I have seen here in years. If only they would leave me some eggs! Liz...See MoreOT: Another garden visitor
Comments (16)Glad you all liked the pics. He is still here and at 5:30am this morning decided to make his presence known by standing on our stone wall in the front yard and crowing. My husband says we should try to find someone who has female pheasants and get a couple of them for him. Perhaps that will quiet him down. LOL. So far he hasn't damaged the daylilies...thank goodness. Kathy: I sent pics to my children to see and I'm sure my son was thinking the same thing as your Dad ;-). Julia...See MoreBird Visitor
Comments (4)Oh thanks! I went to that site and reported it. When I was searching for info on this species, I found out that in 2009 some were seen in Medina Co. (my county) and in Bexar, just to east of my area. I knew as soon as I saw it last Friday that this was an unusual bird for my area, but it took a while to ID it!...See MoreNew bird visitor on the pond
Comments (3)Dawg! Now I'm really jealous! I only recently learned that spoonbills belong to the same order as our vultures. When this guy's fully mature you'll see the family resemblance. IIRC, by the time he's about 3yo, he'll be bald-headed. 8-] ICA, Sophie ^i^...See More- 4 years agolast modified: 4 years agocaroline94535 thanked raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
