Comments (7)I'm not sure what colors you are looking for, but from your list, I assume you like modern roses--hybrid teas and floribundas. In hybrid teas, you might consider Double Delight--one of the most popular HTs--creamy white with bright red edges--quite dramatic. Or if you like the fuller look of floribundas, a similar colored one is Cherry Parfait--produces lots of blooms. Another great hybrid tea, but on the cooler side, is Elina-creamy white with a hint of yellow in the center. A cooler floribunda I like is my new Easter Basket--has more of that "frilly" look that Our Lady of Guadalupe exhibits, but Easter Basket is creamy white with pale pink flushes sometimes, pale yellow flushes other times, sometimes all three colors at once--very delicate and subtle colorings. Maybe you need to explore other types of roses also--like shrubs. I adore my Molineux (a David Austin shrub)--has the old-fashioned look, but is modern. It produces blooms in the yellow range, sometimes with peachy or creamy shades mixed in. I have it growing in the "cottage garden" part of my gardens, and it looks great there. Without knowing more about what you want in your roses, that is the best I can come up with right now. Hope that is helpful. Kate...See MoreA rose by any other name would still be as sweet?
Comments (12)How about moving your ÂFreedom over along the property line between you and the neighbor who doesnÂt know much about gardening. That would be far enough away from the house to not get the color comparison, and when it grows up it would help screen their yard some. Do I remember right that thatÂs a wet area along there? If so, a hibiscus would be very happy there. There are a whole lot more hibiscus varieties than I know about, but an old standby red is ÂLord Baltimore. I think that would be the right red for you, but itÂs been too long since IÂve seen it in person to be sure of that. I pretty much remember it to be the red most of the pictures show at the link below. Maybe somebody around here grows it and can be more definiteÂor maybe theyÂll have another variety to recommend. One thing to remember if you go with a hibiscus, tho, is that they come up VERY, VERY lateÂeven here in Denver mine donÂt usually come up till the beginning of JuneÂso there wonÂt be anything there for the first few months of spring. When they do finally come up, they grow so fast you can almost see it! If you look up the Helianthus decapetalis, the "d" should be lower case! Since I compose in Word, it capitalizes anything that comes after a periodÂwhether I want it that way or not! Grrrrrr! And I donÂt always catch it when IÂm in a hurry, so itÂs wrong in my first post! Comments (28)Three coats white on wainscoting, three coats seapearl on walls... This is not fun. On the plus side, looks amazing. A light warm noncolor, just strong enough not to wash out at night. Fishcow, I know what you mean as peninsula cabs are usually on my hit list, but these ones don't hurt my feelings. They're relatively unobtrusive and they just really block the view of the TV from the kitchen, but not the views or the seating in the living room....See MoreBlack Magic and Veterans Honor Bareroot Roses on their way-need advice
Comments (18)Thank you, frnchcuffs! I've now had them for about a year..and they're both doing well. Here are my thoughts... veterans honor - I love! I think this and firefighter are my favorite red roses. I love the bloom size, the longevity of the blooms when cut, the subtle raspberry fragrance, and how the red doesn't blue with age (like mr.lincoln). Pretty long rest time between flushes. black magic - is almost constantly in bloom, the color is nice..a bit darker than usual, but the blooms are really small. I had heard this about black magic before..so it is true..tiny blooms! Still pretty, but no fragrance. im excited to see how well they do in their second season....See MoreSunshine Anderson
