Replace bathroom vanity countertop & sink

The side splash in both our bathrooms sits next to the countertop instead of on top of it. The countertop measures 30” and then the side splash is additional.
I want to change the top and sink and ofcourse will have side plash sitting on top of the counter when I do.
My concern is the alignment of the plumbing shifting if I get a 31” or 32” countertop. Is that a real concern or can it be easily remedied?

sorry, but that was very poorly done.

you don't need a side splash (there are other options) , certainly not one done in that manner.

This one is also incorrect. they're too thick. they probably cut the backsplash piece from a leftover piece of the granite.

But, at least it's sitting on top.

This is your basic Lowes, 30" vanity and countertop with a 1/2" overhang. looks like a 2-3" backsplash piece, installed correctly. they have a budget/basic 4" spread faucet.

This is an option. (wall treatment like this shiplap on the side) or you could use tile.

But if you feel you really want one, install the vanity/countertop, and the side portion goes on top. It should NOT be done like your current one.

Sits right on top, along w/the piece across the back. (BTW, if you do a wall mount faucet, you'll gain a lot more countertop space and easier to clean)

you're getting a new vanity w/a diff countertop? any idea what type?

The measurement of the vanity is usually 29-30" (for that size) with a 1/2" or so for the countertop overhang. You shouldn't have to worry about moving your plumbing.

The rough-in should be able to serve a slight shift, but the drain will be replumbed.

debrak2008, I have to figure out how to post a pic here first :P. But the countertop is those yellowish cultured marble top (you see a lot of those in the older houses) but it's not one-piece. The sink is an undermount sink, so it's just like the typical granite top with undermount sink you see now. BUT mine is not granite top obviously, and the sink is rusty and scratched. sjhockeyfan and weedyacres, Thanks for your link! Yes I looked on craigslist and saw some ads for prefab granite tops too. And my friend told me about this too. But my problem is I can't find my size, esp. the 72 inch SINGLE sink countertop... :(. And if I custom made that one, it's expensive. The worst is that I need one 60 inch (I found that this countertop is the only one that's the most typical size) and one 72 inch that's matching right, cuz they're in the same jack & jill bathroom! For the 36 inch countertop for the half bath, the problem is the depth is 1 inch more shallow than the typical tops, so it's 20 inch. And I can't go any deeper because the top is right next to the door opening so 21" countertop won't work! So yes, my house has some strange bathrooms and I figured either we spent more money to hire someone to renovate (but we don't have that funds now) the bathrooms, or we try to make small changes. Of course, I wish I could be as handy as most of the members here then the problem can be solved easily :( Anyways, thanks for all your answers! Please do share if you have any more insights. I think it can be done and not look crowded. It depends on how much room you have and how you layout the wall elements, mirrors and lights. Here are some pictures to consider. I love the fold up mirror in the last one.

I think the cabinets are lovely and would lend themselves to many options. Are you wanting granite? other solid surface? It's a fairly neutral bathroom as is (floor and vanity) so what colors are in the rest of the house and or are your leaning towards? Also, while it;s great for pros to offer help on here, I thought the forums were to share ideas and private messaging was more for personal or unique info.
