White paint for brightness and making Champagne-finished oak pop-up

Hi, in a few weeks I get delivered my 8" white oak by OakAndBroad. You can see here an install of that wood, it is the Champagne finish. I want to brighten the space up as much as possible, there is some natural light but not as much as I would like. I wanted to paint the walls white, but which undertone would both make the house super bright and make the wood pop out? For instance, the wall paint in the install I linked above is too dark for my taste. Brand names of paint are welcome. Here is a short video of my house if you'd like to watch it, it still has the carpet. Walls are so dark.

My favorite warm white from BM is Simply White. Alabaster from SW is a favorite of many people on this site. Be aware that BM has an Alabaster, but it is not the same color as SW's. After your floors are installed you can start sampling colors. No one can really tell you what color will work in your home. No one's lighting is the same and colors aren't true on monitors. BM and SW both have good websites that might help you choose a couple more colors to get started with. There is a BM store with a color consultant near me. You might be able to find one near you if you need more help. They will come out to your house for a very minimal fee.

If you were hoping to paint before your floors are installed bring home the sample board of the flooring if you can get one. If you ordered the flooring online and that's not possible, you should wait until you get an actual piece of the flooring to look at next to samples. There is no substitute for the real thing.

Ok so I am narrowing down my choices. I know that I want a very modern look in a house with not too much light. This is the rift and quartered white oak flooring with Champagne stain I bought. I wanna paint both walls and trims (the latter glossier) with one of these:

1) Chantilly lace by BM (warm white but no undertone: LRV=92)

2 )Simply White by BM (more yellow undertone than Chantilly Lace: LRV= 91)

3) Extra White by SW (LRV=86, slightly cool undertone)

4) High Reflective white by SW (LRV= 93, people say warmer than Chantilly Lace)

Which one do you suggest? Questions are:

1) Is there an undertone of white that makes a house feel more modern?

2) I have some blue furniture, and the felt of the pool table is blue. Should I go for a less warm color like Extra white?

3) Isn't a less warm color such as Extra white gonna make the wood pop up?

4) Should i go for Chantilly Lace (LRV=92) to maximize brightness in the house?

Here is a picture with the Simply white and Extra white next to the Champagne plank. Still waiting for the brighter samples (Chantelly and High Reflective).

nancy_east -- thanks for your nice words! How exciting about your kitchen -- this will be fun to watch develop! The widest walkway we have is 36 1/2" (countertop to countertop), with it going down to 34 1/2" where our apron front sink "jumps" out. From our cooktop to the widest point of the bowed island countertop is 35 3/4". The only times (or rather, areas) our aisles feel tight are when the dishwasher door is open and there's only 12" of clearance (between the open door and the island cabinetry). But so far, no barked shins! We're careful and aware. The other area is our refrigerator (which is 30" wide, all refrigerator so it's a wide door): when it's open the only one who can sidle by (and then it's just barely) is our two year-old. But neither of those conditions are permanent (meaning, the dishwasher is mostly closed and the refrigerator door is mostly closed as well). While 36" for an aisle isn't "ideal," for us it's working out fine. Our only alternative would've been to give up the island and that wasn't an option! We need the storage space. Your aisles will work out fine; if it there's an impediment in the 36" aisle (like a dishwasher), then you all will learn the same careful two-step we and many others have as well! The granite is Typhoon Bordeaux Backsplash is a Carena mosaic tumbled tile in a midi brick pattern. I was told that its been discontinued. The tile stores shorted me and was closed for the holidays so I looked everywhere for more and had no luck, I had to wait for the store to reopen so the installer could finish the backsplash. The painter was expensive. I'm still waiting for an invoice but it was in the $3500-$400 range after taxes. I couldn't convince my husband to rip out the cabinets so this was the next best thing. In the end, I'm very happy with the results. I made it just under my $10,000 budget and it feels like a new room. That said, I'll think twice before renovating again. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.

Floors were finished with Minwax Weathered Oak Stain, one coat of Bona Classic Seal, and one coat of Bona Traffic. Another coat of Traffic will be applied after cabinets and trim installation. The floors did not turn out the way I expected, but I'm still very pleased with the final outcome. I would have preferred a less "painted" look, and more natural with just a tint of brown. But, I couldn't find any stains that provided this look. Someone mentioned that tinting the sealer might achieve the look I wanted, but my installer had not tinted before, and I didn't want him trying on my floors for his first time. It was difficult to capture accurate photos. All the ones I took on an iphone were very inaccurate. The ones below were taken with a DSLR and capture the true look from various angles. In real life, the floors are slightly darker than the photos. Perhaps this will help someone in the same situation as me. In hindsight, I should have sample stained and sealed a much larger area (maybe 3' x 3') with a couple of final choices to get a more accurate representation.

The video had dark wood trim much darker than the floors and looks much better lighter and brighter. The original posters wood trim matches her light oak floors and looks nice but it is her house so if she wants to paint it to make her happy that is up to her. Or she can see if a wall color will help. My bedroom's headboard does not make me feel good so I am going to make my change also. With all the opinions, it is best to then decide who YOU feel and what you want to do. Thank you so much Celery, Visualization, Rendering Images for your video. I love creamy and bright walls and that is why I feel a headboard for me without the dirty looking too busy headboard would make me happy. I am still wondering how much canned lighting in my ceiling would help me feel happier.
