new dining chair fabric: pick fun neutral pattern or go big w/color?

I fear playing it safe with neutral and then regretting it, but then i waffle and think, "Do I want that much attention on the seats?" Maybe bold color from the top of the painting on the wall? Thnx for input!

Why not add a rug or two to your space and let the colors from it (them) lead your upholstery choice? Measure carefully. If you plan to hang a chandelier above the dining table, take that into consideration to determine what floor space you have for rugs.

I think you have a lot of better things for people to focus on in your room than some bold chair seats. A rug would be nice.

Comedy of errors (only after we had a few drinks was it comedic) 1. We greatly underestimated the effort to paint textured walls, especially on the ceiling. That and we're 15 years older than many of the projects we've done the past. 2. Turns out we got the wrong color paint. I'm not sure why I had a different color paint stuck in my head and even though I checked color swatches I still got it wrong. And now that we're going to pay someone to do it I definitely want to make sure the color is right. Only after I came back to this post did I realize I gave the store the wrong color. We're going to suck it up and pay someone to do it which is good because that also includes trim and doors. Although now I have to take a week off of work. Good news: we can donate the paint to Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

JD, I'm trying to update and freshen up my dining room. I'm not generally planning to change the furniture. I could do something different other than recover the parsons chairs if it would make sense. I know that china cabinets are not "in", but I've redone what I'm displaying in mine and like it so much better!

Liasch, I would just replace it with the other roll I bought. You can only see the seam at night. But I also noticed up close it still has air bubbles in it. So first I'll just try rehanging these pieces before I open the new package. Kjoy, I need some hooks somewhere so people can reach a towel. Don't you think? Towels won't stay there daily, just when we have vistors or I can put hand towels there when we have a party.

I have seen it in person. It isnt overly bright. However the cushions are not cheap and an investment that I am sure you would like to last several seasons. If you choose a color like that you are tied into it until you part with the cushions. By doing something more neutral, black, navy, black and white stripe, navy and white stripe, natural etc. it allows you to "change it up" from season to season with accents in the form of pillows etc. I find each spring when its time to bring out the outdoor pieces again I want something new and fresh. Replacing accent pieces is affordable and fun to do. Replacing investment pieces like cushions/cushion covers isn't doable for most of us on a seasonal basis. You could easily add that color as your accent with navy or black or natural. Next season you may want hot pink or yellow or red or green which all would be able to be added with navy black or neutral too.

Rug sure, but there's no reason not to put a good color on those chairs. It's a quick DIY job (and it's reversible) so why the heck NOT?

Dining seats are not that large…a little deeper shade of the teal would be nice too. It would pull that color to the dining area…you already have similar colors in the throw on the sofa and glass bowl on the end table.

Thank you for noticing the glass bowl, Susan. The artist blew it for us specifically. I was young (it was 1995ish) and not so thoughtful about saving his name back then or I'd give a shout out now. I like your idea of a deper shade of teal.

IT'S REVERSIBLE -- yes! Good to be reminded. haha. That takes the pressure off. Upholstery fabric isn't the cheapest thing, but it's also not too pricey to redo if not happy.
