Want to help me pick out DR chairs?
Comments (46)Update...head now split wide open, brains oozing on the floor. I have, however, figured out why I'm obsessing over the chairs. It dawned on me last night, that when I'm sitting on the family room sofa watching TV or whatever with DH, the DR table is in my full view. Straight through the kitchen, the first thing you see is the table. The pic doesn't show it well but my view is to the left of the fridge, smack into the table base. When TV is boring (which it usually is) I just think about the DR and give DH an elbow and ask him "watcha think about x, y or z?". Believe me, nobody will be happier when I'm done with this than he will. :) Les put the kibosh on the chairs that most were leaning toward. The chairs that come with the table are wooden cane back that cost about a grand a pop. Maybe I'll just have DH drive me around Chicagoland over the holidays (he gets almost two weeks off) and hit all the stores. Great advice about sitting in a chair in person to get the feel. I want this decided before we leave for Italy next month....See MoreNeed new umbrella for my table
Comments (6)I've browsed most web sites listed on Google, including Amazon. Most umbrellas are 6' and wider. I was recently at Walmart and they had a table/chairs/umbrella set for $99. The umbrella is just the right size, only a bright red. If I don't find anything I might just have to buy the set and sell or give away the tables/chairs. I suppose the thing to do would be to buy a 6' diameter and bring it home to see just how it looks, perhaps it wouldn't be all that awkward. Funny how one foot can make a difference tho. Comments (13)This is gorgeous, 2.625 yd Brunschwig Fils Upholstery Fabric Monsoon Floral Coral and I think it would work beautifully, but note the odd sizes of the pieces if you are interested. Brunschwig fabric is very expensive, and this is a 'relative bargain' on eBay....See MorePlease help me pick out a table and chairs
Comments (12)I agree, and I'm glad you too, with the above suggestion to chill out for a moment and wait till the remodeling project is completely done. I'd even go a little further than that and live with your current dinning set in the new space for a little bit so you can have a better sense of the space and it's flow. You don't wan't to buy a set that's too big for you to comfortably move around. This I discovered when I had a 4 person table living in tiny 1 bedroom condos with tiny dinning areas and my guests had to squeeze into their chair. However I moved into a recently refurbished (but preservationly minded) 100 year old home with a large dining area with plenty of room for my 4 person table, with a lot light, next to the kitchen where the wall was torn down and kitchen redone with a peninsula. And I find it turns out to be the center of my activities having so much space around my table and moving back and forth to the kitchen or other areas of my home. I'ts about the flow. That is why I recommend you wait till you live in your new area a little to know what size table you want to buy. I also see you have a 4 person table, assuming it's sufficient for the number of people in your household. You might consider instead of buying a big table, buy one that is expandable, like the one with leafs for when you need more room for dinner parties. Just an idea. How exciting it is. You will love your new place....See Morecmcole01
