Oyster Bar ! :)

My whole house is Maison Blanche. I love it so that’s my vote! It’s funny that I thought it was too light at first, but I think that is because I had a darker gold beige before. Maison Blanche is light and airy, but warm also.

It looks so different there so I can see why you are conflicted. A designer that I consulted with says to paint the sample on a large piece of foam board. Then you can move it around and see wat it looks like in different lighting and different locations. Oops, I think I see where you did that in other posts. This pic here is how Maison Blanche looks in my house:

My trim is SW Pure White.

I use Sherwin-Williams Alabaster SW7008 for all of the trim (door and window casings, baseboards and crown) in the Semi-Gloss. It's a classic clean color that goes with all of the wall colors easily. There's a reason SW has had this color in their collection for so long.

I understand, Jen. My kitchen was a dark green before, and the rest of the house was dark golden beige. We were so worried when we started painting this much lighter color! But now I love it. I don’t think you can go wrong with whichever color you pick...you’ve narrowed it down to some great choices!

Janelle, just curious....your photo on my monitor looks like it has a yellow undertone. Is that what you see in real life?

Mark, it’s hard to describe, but it’s like a light cream which has a warmth to it. It’s doesn’t read yellow in real life, more like a very light tan.

Jen, did you decide on Maison Blanche?

I picked up samples of maison blanche along with muslin today. Maison Blanche reads pretty yellow in my house. Muslin is almost the same but with less yellow. You’re right, it’s scary going lighter!

That’s why I like Accessible Beige. Everyone who used it stated there are no undertones. It really works with most lighting and both cool and warm furnishings. I like the fresh, airy lightness it brings to my house. I used to have SW Croissant which is a light tan with significant yellow undertones. I don’t care for yellow.

@Mike - It's been a week since the samples and boards have been on the walls. During our weekend hike, we'll pick a color. Husband says he has preferences, just waiting on me.

I'm leaning into Oyster Bar over Maison Blanche. I think MB is a bit too yellow in the rooms where we hang out the most (K/EIK/LR/Master) which are south facing (not unexpected).

@Kim - >it’s scary going lighter!> as my 11-yr old niece says, "I know, right!?" It'll feel weird for awhile.

This is my current paint. It’s been 12 years so it’s definitely time for a change. I’ve been redecorating the whole house for the past year or so. Left paint til the last. Definitely the hardest part!

Since my walls are a lighter tan, I used a lighter greige white for my trim (Pure White). Despite the name, SW Pure White is not a true, stark white. I believe it is just a lighter Alabaster.

Creamy is really pretty. Try Swiss coffee as well

We've had the three samples on the walls and every room in the more and more they looked at the color, I'm excited about it.e

Over a long road trip this weekend decided we're going to paint the house ourselves. The paint bids were $5-7000 and we recently bought a new car after an accident (not our fault). I know that time is money, and the professionals do a great job, thus the price tag.

I guess it's providence that my husband had a 3rd job, while enlisted, painting houses to make extra money. Having the painters come in will feel like I'm moving all over again (having to pack) so at least this way we can do it on our own timeline and with less disruption.

That sounds like a very good plan! Professional painters are expensive, but with your husband’s experience, it will be a huge savings for you. I can say that my painting crew of three was wonderful, but it was disruptive to say the least. It will be so nice doing it on your schedule. Please post pictures when the job is done, if you can remember. It will be such a nice transformation!

Painting is very disruptive which is why I’m going to wait until fall now to do my house. Way too hot in this desert heat to do that now.

Kim, my iPad camera is not the best. I will try to take more as the lighting changes through the day. What I like best about this paint color is that I don’t perceive any “undertones” at any time of day or night.

Jen K Give us the benefit of your experience. What was the wrong color and what was wrong enough about it that you are having it repainted?

What is the right color?

Jen did you finally paint your house Softer Tan? The suspense is killing me. Lol. I'm considering that color and would love to see photos!

@Joanna - I did. I tried taking pictures but they don't come out nearly as nice as the real color. Here's our hallway, fully lit so you can see the color. It's so much better than the griege. Depending on the room/light it can run from a light khaki to beige. Sometimes the yellow undertone is strong and then it's not. I think the bedroom carpets look better with this color, as does the rest of the house tile and builders grade granite countertops.
