Having trouble picking header for lined drapes
Comments (3)If you are a non sewer I would leave the curtains alone and just sew or buy blackout liners and hang them together on the rod with separate clip on rings. When you hang them put the ring from the curtain on first and then the one from the lining and so on all across but put the last 2 from the lining on at the end and then the last one from the curtain. Put the side with the 2 blackout rings on the ends and the end of the curtain rod with 1 blackout end in the middle of the window. Doing it this way you avoid all the headaches of trying to sew them together and you can be sure the lining won't pull on the drapes. Putting the rings of the blackout inside ensures that it will not show. If you have the material for the blackout lining then cut it an inch shorter in width and use only one ring on each end...See MoreHelp me pick a light for my dining room?
Comments (43)hi cottonpenny, he is my two cents worth: 1) i love the color palette you have selected the dark gray with white will look great with the rich wood table and hutch. i agree with you that you could modernize the chairs (helping to limit the overload of wood) - perhaps a coat of white paint and some new upholstery in a strip or damask that uses a gray and/or white along with your accent color (will you go yellow or blue?) 2) to help tie the modern color palette with the more traditional furniture pieces, i like the simple drum pendant chandelier options that people have been suggesting. using a simple textured fabric (in white) will be a sophisticated solution. just make sure it has a diffuser to stop glare. 3) on the "rules" for sizing i attach a link to a post on this issue (i get asked this a lot), but based on your numbers above the 46" table can take a 34" diameter fixture (the rule is table width less 12" total). remember this is just a starting point and as they say in pirates of the caribbean more of a "guideline"! i actually like bigger (for impact) but i would start there since here i think the fixture is more part of your overall cool scheme than the one wow moment. hope that helps... Comments (2)I think with the knobs that you have on top of your chairs the slipcovers will not fit properly. They will probably always bother you....See MoreHelp me choose fabric for my dining room chairs, please
Comments (11)Select a fabric that brings out the best in the wood finish so that your chairs don't appear so flat. Additionally, are you adding padding or batting so that there is a slight curve to the top of the seat? Right now the seats appear concave. If they were my chairs I would cover the seats in Raffia Cloth. You can simply wipe any spills off the straw You want the Raffia or Madagascar Cloth that has a fabric backing so that it's easier to staple and sew. https://www.caneandbasket.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=67 http://www.franksupply.com/raffia/supplies.html#raffiafabric...See MoreJ.
