Help me pick a dining table and chairs!?
Hi! We are finishing our kitchen reno and looking to purchase a new dining table and chairs.
We have an open kitchen/dining area with a long island.
CURRENT TABLE dimensions for scale: 54" long x 33" deep
Overall space is 138" long.
I love a clean/minimalist scandinavian/danish modern look -- thinking a very light wood to warm up the white cabinets + quartz + walls.
Rectangular table (like is there now) - but a bit larger? Round? Square?
I love the idea of a dining bench on 1 or 2 sides, but obviously that would only work well with rectangular table (or i guess maybe square)?
{Changing out the light fixture will happen once we pick the dining table.... and also figuring out counter stools....]
(please excuse the very messy state of the kitchen and giant Mario balloon in the corner...)

Comments (10)I see that one of your kids is still in high chair mode. I have a round table, similar to yours, but mine is a real 1900 antique. I have had it since I had a highchair sitter and a toddler. I also didn't like the sea of oak, so I painted the pedestal of the table ( and have regretted that almost daily since about 3 years after I did it!) and painted the oak chairs that went with the table. Well, the chairs soon looked awful from kids pushing them into the table and chipping the paint and generally "using" the chairs. My advice would be to get tie on chair cushions to break up all the "oakey-oak" and when the kids have a few more years on them, then find new chairs or paint the old ones. I ordered a chair for a desk we use occasionally. Comments (3)The table size is the only one we found that fits our space and is also a counter height table. The Lowe chairs we really like, since they are super comfortable without being bulky and fit perfectly into the table. They are also leather, which make them much easier to clean - we have two kids and host a lot of their friends. I do understand about the feel though. The chairs seem more contemporary and "cooler" and the table warmer. Do you think the dark steel base with clear table top would fit in our space? I think they would go with the chairs, but not sure about the space. The ivory chair would match the lighter tile and counter top, but not sure if the table will have too much black. Also, we are hanging this chandelier above the space: So wondering if the dark bronze of the chandelier will work with the black base. Comments (118)Hey fellow chair lovers! So, i made a decision 😬 i ordered 2 arch chairs from Sarah Ellison. And I got the big hairy light 😅 we obviously went over budget on the chairs, but they were just exactly right for me. I love the molded seat and postmodern column legs against the tables curves. we’ll do a bench at the back side (still considering a built in) Pictures below of the chairs, the light and a little mock up I did.
