They are a 1.5" finish nail with a small head on them. Countersunk below the surface around 1/16 on average (depending on my anger at the time and soreness of back and knees). I will get some shots tonight.

Family friendly options that aren't dark: -Microfiber has the reputation of being easy to clean. -You could get a slipcover sofa. These are easy to find at places like Potter Barn and Crate and Barrel and don't look schlumpy like an aftermarket slipcover (although it's generally a more casual look that a regular sofa). -You could get something with patterned upholstery that would camouflage stains a bit.

Uptown Floors is on it. The top dent is permanent. There is no "stain" on these floors. The colour is simply natural wood with a clear coat. No stain, therefore no stain to 'fix'. So we are agreed that the top dent is not something that can be fixed (until a full refinish occurs in 25 years from now). The second pic shows a deep scratch. The pale stuff is WOOD. Raw wood without a stain to be exact. You can purchase a finish pen (careful with the finish pens...a water based product should be used but the pens come in oil based options). Assuming you can find a little bit of water based finish (you can find a water based stain in a quart size at HD), you would rub it on and then wipe it off rather quickly. This will change the colour BACK to the background colour (finished wood) as well as add protection so that the raw wood doesn't trap dirt and thereby change colour over time. And an FYI - these are normal events for wood. I wouldn't worry too much about your floors getting dinged up. The most damaging event has already happened (moving in; moving large items into a space). The rest of your life = normal wear and tear. Simply take care of the DEEP scratches (like pic #2; exposed/raw wood). Ignore the rest. Life happens. The floors can take it.

HI joshua123, The kitchen tile is from Pratt & Larson. It is a custom waterjet mosaic piece in marble. The color is a dark grey with a lot of variation. the exact color is bardiglio. the white boarder and interior boarded are snow white marble. kathy and Micah at pratt & lason were extremely helpful finding exactly what I wanted for our kitchen. I'll have to post a couple more pictures from a sunny day, as the ones I have posted dont really reflect the real colors. as far as style and mosaics being dated or not, I'm a firm believer that you should go with what you love and what speaks to you. you are going to be living in the house and walking into that kitchen every day. I dont think our kitchen mosaic looks dated at all, but I'm also not a designer. I can tell you it makes me happy when I walk in to make my morning coffee in that room. I did consider using more of that tile to cover the entire backspace area from the cooktop to the hood, as diana illustrated in some of her photos, to really give it a more modern look, but it was too expensive to justify in this house.
