Furniture Layout ideas / Room uses

We just got our basement finished. We wanted it done but didn’t know what we were going to use it for. We have a living room and family room upstairs. There is also a finished office room in the basement too.

I’m looking for ideas on what to do with this space. The tv the pretty much needs to go where the box is sitting against. We figured on putting a couch down there too. Any other ideas or something that give it a popping factor. I’m hoping to come up with something more then just a another room with a tv and couch.

The bigger section is 20x12 and the smaller section by the steps is 14x10.

Thanks for any ideas.

Pool Table? Workout area? Playroom?

I was thinking either guest room, workout area, kids playroom or teen hangout depending on family needs and lifestage... If no kids or guests, an adult game area could be fun - either a pool table if it fits, poker/game table, foosball etc..

Not a Pro. It's a tight space. I think you did a great job. Maybe just shifting everything a little closer to the fireplace may give you the room needed so you don't feel tight at the kitchen.

How many people watch tv in this room? I would put the TV where the chair is first. Then I would take one of the couches out and put two swivel chairs in its place. A table with lamp on it could be between the two chairs. Or put a couch facing the TV with two chairs in front of the window. A floor lamp at the end of your couch would be useful. With TV on the longer wall, you could get a longer TV console and put a tall plant on the side next to the door, If you use a recliner couch, you really can't use a coffee table or ottoman and since your room is smallish, I would use only end tables and keep the center of the room open since it has two entryways. The chair you have could be where the TV was in the picture....a good place for the floor lamp beside it. If you wanted to watch TV comfortably from the couch and two swivel chairs, you could get a corner console and put your TV there. Lots of possibilities,

You have an egress...would an extra sleep area help? Thinking the smaller area. Of course, that would mean access to a bathroom...is there one close to the top of the stairs?

There is a full bathroom down there however we dont necessarily need a guest room. We have another space for that. We’d rather it be something eveyone can enjoy. We do have 3 teenage daughters. Room uses and furniture layout ideas are needed. Thanks

Party, Party, Party!

Does anyone remember the game Twister?

It's difficult for me to imagine myself contorting myself that way, but I did.

Does more then one have a guest sleep over at a time?

Study groups?

(I know, COVID.)

But pre-COVID?

Do you think they will stay home for college?

If so, they will have study groups, parties, watch the game, etc.

Better that is all done in your house than elsewhere when goodness knows what goes on with no adults around.

I would have a mini-kitchen, maybe a microwave, half fridge with freezer, combination toaster-oven with air-fryer with lots of counter space, a large table with several chairs they can play games at or study around.

Maybe skip the beds, don't make it easy for them!

If they really have some pals over, you can purchase air mattresses and an inflater, they are young, that is OK for them.

You might want to build some closets for games if you don't have enough storage space.

I would put a TV down there, make sure it is wired appropriately for phone, TV, internet, wifi and all that stuff.

I would put two sofas, a couple of ottomans.

Our teen basement has a large sectional with 2 oversized ottomans & lots of cozy blankets for lounging, large TV, round game table with tons of simple party games, apartment sized fridge for drinks, stainless steel topped sideboard to hold pizzas/takeout, and shelves below that hold snacks... lighting with smart bulbs so they can change the color/brightness of the room dep on what they're doing, a really good speaker for Spotify and most importantly good insulation 😅
