I know this post is old, but this is for others who may have the same problem too. The leave can be burned by the sun's raise, if temps are very high. I hear they like full sun, but with filtered sun - especially in hot mid-July, August and September. During the hottest days, put them in a shaded area between the hottest hours, which is between 2 pm and 4 pm. I keep my blueberries in containers. If you plant them in the ground, I would find an area where large trees can filter some of the sun, but still get enough light, during the hottest times of the months at those hottest times of the day.

The big three soil nutrients found in fertilizer are nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. It doesn't matter if you are growing corn, peanuts, or blueberries, its the same big three. There are some other nutrients that plants need, but these are a small percentage of the total. You can pick up some Miracle-Grow and read the label, to learn more about fertilizer. Changing soil pH is not the same as adding fertilizer. Blueberries need the soil pH to be somewhere between 4.5 and 6.5, or they will not take up the nutrient that they need to grow. There are several ways to lower soil pH. Usually, granulated sulfur, aka agricultural sulfur, is mixed in with the soil before the shrub is planted. So, you have to dig out the hole, put back some of the dirt, and mix sulfur with it. Then you put the shrub in, and finish the process. Another way to lower soil pH is to mix a small, measured amount of acid with irrigation water, and put this on the ground around the shrub. For instance, I add 4 fluid ounces of white vinegar, 5% strength, from the grocery store, to every 4 gallons of tap water. We have hard water, our tap water contains dissolved limestone. The vinegar lowers the pH to around 6. However, the vinegar is consumed by soil bacteria, so the beneficial effect only lasts a month or so. The reason for testing the soil, for pH, is to keep the additions of sulfur and other additives within an appropriate range. Too much sulfur, or too much vinegar, will kill the shrub.

Not sure it anyone will answer this seeing how old this thread is, but I am a farmer and getting out of the produce side of farming . . . I am wanting to establish and begin growing blueberries. I have a high fence plot with a drip system already established. I live in Springtown, Texas, which is in Zone 8 . . . north Texas. I am on city water. My parents had a blueberry farm in East Texas for about 10 years and it had been established for about 30 when they had purchased it. He doesn't feel blueberry bushes will survive on city water and that the chlorine will surely kill them. I am going to get a soil test in the next few days; but, I am wondering if this is even possible? Can this work?

Well, it is hard to say. Do the old ones really need fixing or is that just how they work as they are 10 years old? How much would it cost to fix them if you can even find replacement parts for them? Is the Maytag Epic reliable? Have you looked for reviews on Maytag Epics? You said you have to leave them behind if you sell the house. Is that required by law where you are? Everyone I know who has moved has always taken their appliances with them unless they were moving into a house with a better appliance than what they already have. If the sale of their house was contingent on it having appliances they just went out an bought used ones or ones from rehab outlets and left those behind. I got my FL as an anniversary gift so if anyone thinks its going to be left behind if I move, they are totally delusional. I'll replace it with something else if I have to, but my machine goes with me. Are you planning on being there long? If not, you might as well keep the old ones and only worry about replacing if it is really needed. Or you can put the new ones in, put the old ones in storage and when you move take the new ones and just put the old ones back. If I remember correctly, the average life span of a FL is about 10 years, but sometimes you get that diamond in the rough that just keeps going. I'm fairly certain that a newer machine, depending on the one you get, would probably clean better than what is there now. It could depend on what detergent you are using too and what stains aren't coming out. The scorching in the drier is definitely a prob as I still have my old TL drier and it isn't scortching any of my clothes, so that definitely needs to be fixed or replaced. Lord knows how much that may cost to fix too, if it can be fixed. I'm hoping some of the questions I posed helped. Unfortunately it is the best I can do to assist you. I use something until it wears out. Depending on my finacial situation at the time, I'll fix said item if that is all I can afford. If it keeps breaking down then I save up to replace it, but your situation is unique as you have to leave them if you move.
