Update, and David, thanks so much for your reply. I wanted to get a rectangular table, but I thought that would limit the amount of surface space since I only had 60" to place the table. The depth of the area is 28" from the seat to the end of the chaise. You kind of need 12-15" on either side of a table to comfortably get around I would think. There were no tables I could find (that I liked) that narrow to make the rectangle, so I went with the Leister Shaker Cherry Square table. I got it in the heritage stain for the top and the Capri Cream for the bottom so it would go more with the console table our LCD television sits on. I think it will go marvelously well with the other cherry stained stuff we have nearby. I went to a store called Nastasi's in Oaklyn NJ. It was a WONDERFUL experience!!! They are a mom-and-pop store that will really work with you. They had a few Leister cabinets and tables on the floor so I could really see what the quality was. I will shop at this store from now on! Great prices! Originally I was going to go with the Shaker Ash but wasn't too crazy about the stain colors on that wood. They sold me the Shaker Cherry for only $8 more, when the tables at their prices were $50 apart. Nastasi's has appliances as well and very high quality stuff for great prices. I highly recommend this place based on my limited experience. They worked hard to get this small sale and treated me as if I were spending $10,000 instead of $358 (price of that sweet shaker table!) My Flexsteel sectional has metal clips so the two pieces hook together. It's on a wood floor but it's against two walls so it's not going anywhere (it also weighs a ton). No recliners; we plan on a cat sometime soon and I once injured a cat by trapping it under the recliner when I closed it up, so I swore I would never own a recliner again. We did choose to use a larger coffee table because we needed the surface space, and the coffee table that had fit the regular couch just fine was too small for the sectional, both visually and functionally. Regarding measurements, our sectional sits in a corner against two walls. I simply measured the two walls and allowed a bit of space for small end tables, then hunted down a sectional that fit those measurements and wasn't too bulky for the room. Small-scale sectionals that aren't just two loveseats stuck together or a couch with a chaise stuck on (I find it very difficult to get out of the chaise) are not easy to find, but they're not ALL ginormous! Ours is something like 90" on one side of the "L" and 110" on the other. If you plan to "float" your sectional, get a roll of blue painter's tape and map out where your sectional's going to go, right on the floor with the tape, until the proportion looks right and then measure that; if you have the standard sofa-loveseat combo now you can shove them together into that space and get a rough idea of scale. The biggest "pros" in our house are that it wastes no space in our small living room - when we had a couch and loveseat, there was a substantial area in the corner that was wasted (furniture arms take up a lot of space) and we couldn't both stretch out to watch TV, read or nap while now we can and still have room for the dog. :-) The main con is that it IS a little bit heavy-looking for the small room, although cut-back arms, a relatively low back, and a slightly-bland midtone sage color do reduce the visual weight somewhat.

Blonde, I think you and I must be furniture sisters LOL I can't imagine building a house, how wonderful! That's a lot of work so my hat is off to both of you! We bought our home as a foreclosure in need of some loving and loving is what it's gotten. :c) With the exception of our master bath remodel, we've done all the work ourselves; including the installation of our floors. After all we've put into it I wish I could say it's our forever house, but I don't really think so. That's another story though. LOL Thanks so much for your feedback on the table/chairs/server. I was wondering if it worked with the cabinets and flooring, so your opinion is really appreciated. I'm pretty happy with it. Yes, the furniture saga continues but I'm sure it will work out, things always do, don't they? And yes, 3rd time is the charm. Now I have to find curtain fabric for that big window next to the new table. Always projects. LOL Don't feel too bad about the furniture options in your area, we're in a similar boat it just takes some tenacity to stick with it until you find what you want. We live in Michigan about an hour or so north of Detroit. Furniture options here are barren at best. As a matter of fact, we had to drive over 50 miles away just to see the couch we got. The store we bought the table at has now charged us 79.00 x2 plus that freaking restock fee for the sofa's which was 350.00. That's over 500.00 in fees. Ouch. I could have bought tv stand with that! I've never paid a restocking fee before in my life and can promise you I never will again. I think it's ridiculous. As far as black goes, the only experience I've had with black is that I recently painted the cabinet in our spare bathroom black and love it. It is sort of a dust magnet though. I love both black and white painted furniture and don't think you can go wrong with either. My last kitchen table was white and I had for 20 years; it showed dirt that I don't think the black would show, however black would show any paint chipping that I don't believe the white would show as badly. Finger prints are another animal however and I can't say, you may want to post a thread and see what kind of response you get. One thing I do wonder about is if the black would have a stronger presence in a room as opposed to the white, I know it does in our bathroom. Do you know what I mean? How big is your space? Would the black swallow it up? Is this what your other table looked like? I love those chairs. They carry them at Pottery Barn Outlet which luckily is 50 miles north of us, they are very french country. Why is everything 50 miles away? I love brown and gray together. I am furnishing my new to us house that also has gray walls and white trim. I just purchased a dark gray sofa and am in the process of pulling everything else together. I have dark wood furniture in the room. I notice that your sofa has nail head trim and I think it ties in with the nailhead on the ottoman. I love how rooms look collected, not just like someone purchased a showroom collection with all of the matching accessories. I would switch out a couple pillows for dark ones to tie it all in together, and some dark wooden furniture pieces such as an end table or cabinet will help tie it together too.
