Three weeks absence
Comments (3)Well if anyone's interested in what happened- I ended up being gone for a full month. I filled the lucky bamboo's pot with water and put it in my bathtub with the curtain drawn. Then I jimmy-rigged a greenhouse out of a pop can box and ceran wrap and set it over the plant. It worked perfectly- almost all the water was still in the pot and when I got back the plant was as happy as ever- happier than my succulents (c. ovata, c. arborescens, sempervivum sp.), believe it or not....See MoreInteresting Observation After Three Weeks
Comments (2)Thanks, thedogsLL...I was pretty sure that's what they're doing based on how much castings I have in the bottom bin. Before I changed to a cloth cover, I noticed worms on my lid as well--I think they actually like the condensation and moisture, which is probably why they go down to your bottom bin too. My system is relatively dry, so I have to keep spraying the bedding in my bottom bin to keep it from drying out, which might be what attracts them. Also, can someone describe how big the cacoons are in comparison to castings? I think I've even found some of those in the bottom bin as well. I did quite a bit of "digging" in my main bin today and I already have a lot of castings in it too and noticed that it tends to build up a lot more where I've fed larger quantities of food. So does anyone have a rough idea of how quickly a ten gallon bin with two thousand worms might be ready to harvest the castings? Thanks! BB in FL...See MoreThree More Weeks of Not Knitting!
Comments (6)Yes, Susan, I'm on my feet and that is a blessing. But someone else has to cut my dinner up for me and making my hair presentable with only one hand doesn't seem to very successful either, LOL. My daughter (does not live with us) and husband do all the cooking and dishwashing. Today I did manage to put together a casserole, but couldn't lift it to put it in the oven. Had to get my 80+ mom to do it for me. I should quit complaining, because I know things could be much worse. I still have a roof over my head, unlike the newly homeless young man who came to our door the other night. It was obvious he was not used to asking anyone for anything. He asked if we had any yardwork he could do in exchange for money for dinner. In truth did not have the resources to give him any money, but I told him I could give him some canned goods and water. He had tears in his eyes and said that he had no way to open the cans even. We found a backpack that we were no longer using and filled it up with food and a can opener, I told him to come back when that was gone and we'd fill it up again. I don't know if we'll see him again, but his bag of food is waiting for him. Nearly broke my heart....See MoreThree weeks old...
Comments (4)Looking good there, I hope they go on to grow into lovely plants for you! Please keep us posted on their progress. Are they obesums or one of the other kinds? Don't be surprised if most of them if not all turn out to be pink flowered later on as its hard to get one of the colours we see advertised. The amount of seeds that have to be sown to get a particular colour is very large. Gill...See MoreAlisande
