What color rugs for terra cotta colored tiled floor?

We have a 20 yr old house on the market. It has over 2,000 sq ft of large scale tiles on the first floor. Some feedback we are getting is this is dated. Replacing the flooring is not an option for us but I would like to put down area rugs to break up all the tile. It is a semi open concept with living/dining area. I had heard on a You Tube video of two options, one go to a complimentary color / or neutral pale color. Our furniture is all mixed things in neutral tones. The wall paint is a golden peach color, and it has also been suggested to paint the walls white. What color do you think I should do for rugs?

Yes to the white paint suggestion. The color now clashes with the floors and your furniture.

I think once you change the wall color, you could get rugs in whatever colors you wanted to work with your decor.

I'm not a tile expert but I think that's not Saltillo tile. hi feisty68. thanks much for inquiring!!!! the answer to your question is an old maine expression: "slower than molasses going uphill in the winter." it seems that phrase is also the motto of new york contractors. the house is now freshly roofed. most of the window cut-outs are in the right place, but the porch columns look (in photo) unevenly spaced and.......ok, you get the drift. best (?) is response from contractor (who still owns the house) to one of my many questions. he texted back......."don't poke the bear!" good news is that half those terra cotta tiles are on site; the rest are in my car scheduled for friday departure to new york. am also bringing a giant supply of "molasses melter!"

Yes to repainting the interior of your home white. Then, I would go for neutral area rugs. I would even consider buying wall to wall carpet to a large area rug size and having it self-bound. Good luck with the sale of your home!

Its all fine and good to say paint the walls white but there are 100’s of whites out there! I do agree that the current wall colour is not good.

There is a common saying in Real Estate:

"There is no defect that price can't cure"

Price it right and people will buy it, even with a dated (and slightly ugly) floor.
