Need Interior Design Opinions on Paint/Wallpaper/Accent walls
I'm slowly remodeling an old 1950's house and had the entire interior painted with Revere Pewter (BM) walls, Edgecomb Grey on the ceiling (BM), and a softer white trim color. I feel as though the house may need a little more breakup on the color scheme.
1) . I'm considering a "Woodland Toile" wallper behind the television which is very similar in color to the walls and trim. No?
2). Also, the guest bathroom by the stairs (the walls with the alligator painting) seems like it could be an architectural peice or something? Ideas?
3) . Should the walls up the stairs be a different color?
4). Wallpaper behind the mirror on the landing and up the stairs? Different paint color?
5). I also have to to do something down that back hallway but I'm thinking of doing wainscotting similar to what is under the tv which will whiten and lighten the back entryway...
6). Or just leave it all alone... ideas?

Comments (18)FWIW,I've been hanging wallpaper for more than 30 years. Most of the hundreds of rooms I've done, have had latex paint. I have never encountered any problem that I would have connected to the latex paint. Actually the only time I've ever had a problem with the paint under the paper, was in one house. I thoroughly sealed the walls of three rooms in that house before I papered. A few months later, the paper started popping off of the walls, taking the sealer and original paint with it. I have never seen anything like it. After considerable research, I concluded that the original coat of paint was probably applied to new walls while they were covered with dust. This would not be surprising since most builders spray on the original paint. I suppose it's possible the paint itself was defective or so cheap as to be useless. I really like the painting on the adjacent wall too and might be the angle of the photo but it looks a little high - your guests will all be seated in that room - recommend hanging it at “gallery” viewing height: “Hang Artwork at Eye Level: A common mistake when it comes to art installation is hanging pieces neck-craningly high. Comments (15)I would focus on 3 colors predominantly- black for furniture and curtains (existing unless you’re looking to change window treatments too), warm gray for carpet, paint and background colors and gold for accents. I would pull the carpet color from the color of the leaves on the wall paper to tie it together. Same for paint. I’d take one of the colors you like from the paper and match it to paint. Comments (9)Thank you Patricia I let her talk me into it. I found out after when I bought it . I was sad to see the man hand her a check. I payed 1400.00 to buy and to tear down the next day. I hated it. I am so so mad that I let her convince me it was going to be as she said"DREAMY". It was dreamy but my dreams were night mares. Please help me now start fresh. I orderd that bed because I sold my house in hamptons and wanted my old bedroom set . In that beach house it was gorgeous. Here 5 years later and special order it is very cheap version and I cannot change . My husband wants to keep it. I agree I didnt want the night stands husband wanted nightstand.s If I did anything It would be to paint over the grey inside with shabby paints. But lets move forward. Now that I tore it down. I have a blank canvas. I feel like a fool to trust her decorator;s advice and go against my gut feeling yellow was always wrong. Here are my related spaces right from the living room you can see this and the yellow was garrish and it looked like baby diaper gold. lol MY whole original theme was to do an amazing wallpaper that made you go wow! 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoNo wallpaper on the TV wall, it's too distracting.
I would wait to decide on whether or not to change the paint color on the TV wall until you finish decorating that room.
For example, the area rug in there seems boring to me.
That room would be so improved with a lively rug such as a hand woven tribal.
Or if you like a more traditional rug, a hand-knotted Persian is always perfect.
The paint colors and the wainscoting are fine, and you can continue the waiscoting in the hallway if you want.I would not paint the stairway a different color. You don't want the house to give a choppy feeling, especially with the open plans they have nowadays.
If you are in love with a particular wallpaer, you can cut a few rectangular pieces and put them up spaced, and frame them with pieces of molding and they look as though they are works of art. This looks very nice in a dining room.
I don't particularly care for the wallpaper you chose. It is very dense and a bit odd. I would find not restful or happy or inspiring. If you are bound and determined to have it somewhere, maybe have it as an accent wall behind your headboard in the master bedroom. Often people go bold with the wallpaper in the first floor powder room, but I would find it too disturbing for even there.
I can't see the alligator piece very well, but I am wondering if it doesn't belong in a children's room?
I don't understand what you are asking about the bathroom.

Thanks all. I guess you can tell it's a guy's kinda pad. Nashville. Perhaps a little more artsy fartsy. Not for everyone.
I'm going to upload a few photos of behind the couch and the kitchen. The backsplash is a teal glass tile. The kitchen island is being replaced by a custom wood island.
