big kitchen advice need your thoughts on a 22.5ft run of counter
Comments (49)It appears that you only have one wall for your kitchen as the islands, due to your constraints (we all have them), can not be usefully incorporated into the kitchen That window wall then must have the fridge on it instead of across the kitchen. You use the fridge a whole heck of a lot more than your ovens. When you bake something it stays in the oven for anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours. A fridge you are in and out, in and out, in and out. Walking across that kitchen to the fridge will get old fast. Put the fridge where you currently plan on putting the ovens. Put the ovens and the pull-out broom closet in the area where you plan on putting the fridge. You now have the ovens and pantry near one another. If you do a lot of baking, put a prep sink and trash pull-out at this end of the island by the range and this area becomes your baking center.. The broom closet does not need to be taking up valuable working triangle space. Your prep area will probably be between your fridge and sink. Left center your sink on that wall with the DW to the left of it, close to the dinette area for clean-up....See MoreCan a kitchen island be TOO big???
Comments (29)We have a 13x5’ island and love it. But our kitchen is essentially a galley kitchen that is open to the living room. The other side of the island is just seating with some extra storage underneath for rarely used items. Any wider than 5’ and I don’t think my 5’4” self could clean it (and it’s a slight struggle at the very center of the 5’). We would probably feel differently if it was in the middle of our kitchen and we had to walk around it to access things....See MoreJust purchased refrigerator and it's too big..need advice
Comments (23)@leelee the other side of the wall is a double coat closet. @helen thank you- I'm leaning toward the replacement route as mentioned because I haven't even started contacting kitchen designers yet so shouldn't plan on 'hope' we can make it work later. @rantontoo yes there is an open crawl space, thank you, it's good to know that makes moving a vent easier. @artistsharonva Thank you! I literally felt like an idiot yesterday so knowing others have made the same mistake really helped change my perspective. I realized a couple of things about this fridge that confirm that in this spot a French Door fridge will never work even with a remodel. The door handles extend much more and are longer than the previous side by side so the right handle hits the counter when door is open preventing even opening the right door to 90%, that wasn't an issue with previous fridge. I am wondering why the delivery guys didn't point this out when installed but I also have to take responsibility for being sidetracked with a critical business call during installation and not paying attention to important details like this. Since the width measurement was same as previous fridge I just didn't think about these potential issues. Current counters are just under 25" deep and while possible to go shorter in depth I think it's easier to take my lickings and suck up the restocking fee now. Still kicking myself in that they took old working fridge though... ugh. @DrB477 On credit card return protection policy. protection.. I did check and kicking myself because my Barclaycard doesn't have it where my other cards do... Not sure if it would have covered regardless though since Best Buy states the policy on the website and I presume on the receipt which I haven't checked yet. Return protection seems to be best suited to when a company refuses a return. Thank you all! I tried calling Best Buy a bunch of times yesterday but couldn't get a live person. I will call tomorrow and tell them to pick it up. SO Glad I found this site, it will be helpful with my remodel and certainly made me think through my fridge issue from all angles! I may need to look for a zero clearance hinge fridge. To everyone else that I didn't mention directly - Thank you, your feedback confirmed my thinking... I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing potential options because I like the french door fridge style so much....See MoreFloor Plan Advice/Help - MasterBed too big, MasterBath too small?
Comments (4)To me, the floorpan seems to make sense as it is. You could extend the bath slightly into the bedroom to give you a longer countertop space, about where the wall of bedroom2 runs, but you need to know if that works with your bedroom furniture. You could also slide the shower over to the back part of your closet, accessed from the shorter end, to slide to toilet down and have more countertop. It depends on your priorities....See More- 2 years ago
