Non-Standard Size Bi-Fold Closet Doors
Comments (5)47 7/8" is awfully darn close to 48", a standard size. 59 7/8" is awfully darn close to 30" x 2, a standard size. Why not just buy the standards and shave off 1/8" with a table saw? On the 41 7/8" one, can you either widen or narrow the opening by 6" to get it to a standard size? Of course, for that cost, you could probably just buy custom doors. Another thought: take your existing louvered doors, cut out the louvers, then add an 1/8" plywood panel on the back side, turning it into a recessed panel door....See MoreCloset Bi-Fold Doors
Comments (2)You can order much nicer bi-folds than what is on the sales floor at big box stores like Home Depot and at lumberyards. Ask at the millwork desk. You do not need to put bi-folds on a track - you can put them on regular hinges, which will also allow you to push the doors flat against the walls flanking the closet, so you have better access to the full width of the closet. This takes up less space than conventional doors. I did this for the master bathroom in my previous house because a swinging door would have wasted too much space and blocked a window. Large shutters can be hinged together to make bi-fold doors, and some shutter companies will do that for you for a small additional charge. Many small custom door manufacturers will make bifold doors to spec. Even if not backlit, a frosted or textured glass panel in a closet door can reduce the visual heaviness of a large set of closet doors....See Morealternative to bifold closet doors?
Comments (13)There are different qualities of bifold doors so you might want to go to a good door store and see how they felt. I have a combination of closet door styles in my home. Sliding doors (IMO) work best with relatively wide closets and even then I am sometimes frustrated a bit when I need to slide back and forth. In my bedroom I also like that they function as really good full length mirrors - as well as providing a mirror image of my views. Bifolds work well because I have complete visibility and access to the entire closet and obviously the function where a swinging door would impede egress....See Morecustom closet doors
Comments (4)This is the best I have. I have since thrown these in the dumpster. The walls have also been painted. And none of that is my furniture. We also removed all of those lights and will put fixtures in other areas (over the table and on the sides of the bed). I’m thinking we might get sturdier bifold for next to the bed and 2 solid wood swing doors for the closet thats by the table. Giving up on the online plan and will go to a store....See MoreHelen
