Hanging planters for indoors?
Comments (12)Oops, the post about Behnke's was on Mid-Atlantic Gardening; I mistakenly thought it was here on houseplants. Too many forums! I thought I had found some pots but at the last minute I realized they had pre-drilled drain holes. I'm planning to get the Valley View ones this coming week. I go to the Beltsville one since it is closer. It is about 60 miles from Westminster. Their prices are not cheap, but the plants are impeccable, and at 25% off, I'll pay for that. My bird of paradise was $49.99 less 50%, my Phaiocalanthe orchid in bloom was $39.99 less 25%, my small red ponytail palm was I think around $5, the very nice blooming tropical hibiscus in 8" pots were $14.99 less 25%. They had a lot of 10" to 14" tropicals - dracaenas, rubber plants, canes, selloums, birds of paradise, crotons, pretty much every houseplant there is! A small section of orchids and african violets. Lots of Phaius Tankervillae (Nun's Orchid). Anthuriums, ZZ's, a nice selection of cacti and succulents, and just about every 4 to 6" foliage plant you've ever seen and some you haven't. And I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting. It's the largest selection and square footage of houseplants I've ever shopped in - picture the greenhouse at Valley View Farms where they keep the houseplants and everything else, it's at least that big with just houseplants and maybe twice as big! I suspect the houseplants area shrinks some in the spring and summer, so go now....See MoreTree stump for indoor planter
Comments (11)The stump was mostly rotted so the inside was pretty soft. I used a screwdriver and tongs to dig into the center and pull out the wood. Then I baked it in the oven -about 200 deg for several hours (and put it inside a plastic garbage bag with an insect bomb). Then I sprayed the inside with Thompson's Water seal... found a small aerosole can of Thomspon's. I sealed the outside with a decoupage paste ... it stands up well outdoors. I have some bigger ones (actually stumps) that have no middle at all. I plan to try the same thing with them.... using the Thompson's water seal. My plants did well in the limb. On cleaning out the center: I used just about everything I could find in the house to pull the middle stuff out! Hope this help....See More2015 Code for indoor hand rails?
Comments (25)Okay so I really need your guys help! The original pic I posted was of the current house b/c I wasnt able to get to the new house at the moment. The carpenter who did this doesn't seem to want to make the time to come and fix it... Please see pics of the new railing, inspector said just to do a straight cut on both pieces of wood and to place an "S" piece of wood to connect the two. But where the spindle is concerns me, I feel like the "S" would almost skip over the spindle, and we cannot remove the top spindle because then the opening between spindle and wall would be too big! Attaching pics-opinions please..... (Carpenter asked US to pick up the pieces??! We have no idea how to measure and what we're doing?!). What else would we need? I think the inspector mentioned something about a plate to go underneath where it connects? (and I guess that piece against the wall, will need to come off). Thank you in advance.....See MoreI suck at growing things in planters!
Comments (6)I had similar trouble earlier this summer with some new planters I planted impatiens in. I forgot to put coffee filters over the drain holes before adding dirt and the holes got clogged. I drilled some holes on the side near the bottom of the planters and this skanky water came pouring out. My impatiens did wonderful after that....See MoreRehabit
