Help Me Think: Swinging Daybed on Patio (pics!)
Comments (31)Good luck on building your swinging daybed! I have been designing and building swinging beds for several years now. My designs begin with vintage architectual parts such as porch railings. The bed featured in the Seibels web site is one of my original designs which is now being reproduced. My most current one is featured on the web site www.thecommissarydesignwarehouse.com. The beds on this web site and at their store are more reasonably priced. The one on this web site hangs from a stand I designed rather than the ceiling but best results are to hang from 4 separate ropes, chains or cable. The movement is similar to a glider and a raft on calm water. The same design bed as featured on the Seibels site is featured in the June 2008 issue of Southern Living on page 96. I am currently suggesting an inflatable mattress from Bed Bath and Beyond which only cost $50. It is very suitable for outside since it is basically plastic/rubber. Royal Bedding in Birmingham AL area manufactures a very water resistant mattress which I also recommend. If I can provide any detail information/advise while your are developing your bed just let me know. Good luck!...See MoreNeed help making a daybed cover (basically a fitted sheet)
Comments (5)Terriks, that is such a great diagram! Tia, several years ago, I made a similar cover for the daybed in my guest room. It doesn't have the elastic around the bottom as you're thinking, but does fit snugly. I ended up using a king-size comforter in order to get all the fabric I needed, but actually didn't need such a big one. The comforter gave me the patterned, quilted fabric I wanted, but it is bulky and a bit hard to put on. Once it's on, though, it stays in place nicely. I have noticed that my guests do have trouble getting it back on and often leave the bed half made during their stay. It's also not practical as it is, to use as an extra blanket while sleeping. Soooo, now when guests come to stay, I use a thin, lightweight quilt instead and use the fitted cover I made when the room's used just for a den and DD sits on the bed like a sofa. Here's the comforter I cut up and used for mine. I bought it at Penneys: And here's the only pic I have of the fitted comforter I turned it in to. BTW, the bedskirt is not actually gold as it looks in the pic, but a sueded fabric in a chamois color. Just some food for thought before you start cutting ;^D Lynn...See MoreWhat do you think of this daybed for DD? Bedding ideas
Comments (7)Just to clarify, she mentions in her add she is only selling the frame (orig. cost $400) and that is all I need since I have two mattresses in DD's room now that I will be using. Then I'll just sell her oak bedframe as I agree most don't want a used mattress--esp. kids as you don't know if they bedwet. lindac: Oh, so I use a sham with a trundle. Do you know if I could just use what I just bought which is a twin "bed-in-a-bag" and just get another sham? It includes the dust ruffle. I've not opened it yet, but my DD loves the pattern. The trundle will only be used for occasional sleepovers and sometimes my older daughter will sleep there when grandma comes to visit and then grandma sleeps in my older DD's room. Comments (3)There are different kinds of day beds. The most common was once simply a twin bed, with or without head board or foot board or back board. Now there seem to be many different kinds that are definitely not the standard twin bed. https://www.google.com/search?q=image+day+bed+as+sofa&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjH5OTLpt3eAhUpnOAKHdTRCBgQsAR6BAgGEAE&biw=1366&bih=650 Is your day bed is just a twin metal frame w/mattress and box spring? If so, the key is to find (or make or have made) a pair of day bed covers that will cover all four sides of the mattress and all four sides of the box spring. Covering both the mattress and box springs entirely is your first step. If you can find the equivalent of two zippered mattress cases or two with elastic (one for the mattress and another for the box spring) in a material suitable for a sofa, that would be the easiest way to begin. https://www.etsy.com/listing/600751093/daybed-slipcover-twin-mattress-cover-or?gpla=1&gao=1&utm_campaign=shopping_us_SoftFrame_sfc_osa&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_custom1=0&utm_content=11326925&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIv9rCx6Td3gIV5Y5bCh0eYgs3EAQYBSABEgJlrPD_BwE Alternately, you could choose two identical covers made with four tailored corners each that set atop the mattress and the box spring rather than wrap around them. You'd put one beneath the mattress over only the box spring (to create the equivalent of a bed skirt on all four sides) and put the other over the mattress in order to cover all four sides of both the mattress and the box spring when it is not being used for sleeping. Does your daybed have either "arms" on the two narrower sides and/or a taller back on one of the longer sides? If so, tailored corners of your day bed covers may need to accommodate these features while still hanging smoothly. Once the mattress and box spring are both covered, you could add rectangle shaped bolsters/pillows for "arms" on each end. The "back" cushions are more difficult since even wedge shaped pillows, unless against a wall, could fall off when leaned against. Then add as many additional throw pillows as suit your personal taste....See MoreDestiny Albea
