Good luck on building your swinging daybed! I have been designing and building swinging beds for several years now. My designs begin with vintage architectual parts such as porch railings. The bed featured in the Seibels web site is one of my original designs which is now being reproduced. My most current one is featured on the web site www.thecommissarydesignwarehouse.com. The beds on this web site and at their store are more reasonably priced. The one on this web site hangs from a stand I designed rather than the ceiling but best results are to hang from 4 separate ropes, chains or cable. The movement is similar to a glider and a raft on calm water. The same design bed as featured on the Seibels site is featured in the June 2008 issue of Southern Living on page 96. I am currently suggesting an inflatable mattress from Bed Bath and Beyond which only cost $50. It is very suitable for outside since it is basically plastic/rubber. Royal Bedding in Birmingham AL area manufactures a very water resistant mattress which I also recommend. Just to clarify, she mentions in her add she is only selling the frame (orig. cost $400) and that is all I need since I have two mattresses in DD's room now that I will be using. Then I'll just sell her oak bedframe as I agree most don't want a used mattress--esp. kids as you don't know if they bedwet. lindac: Oh, so I use a sham with a trundle. Do you know if I could just use what I just bought which is a twin "bed-in-a-bag" and just get another sham? It includes the dust ruffle. I've not opened it yet, but my DD loves the pattern. The trundle will only be used for occasional sleepovers and sometimes my older daughter will sleep there when grandma comes to visit and then grandma sleeps in my older DD's room. roselvr, I have been looking and looking for a daybed (wanted the room to look larger with a smaller bed). Also wanted the bed to fuction as double duty: bed for guests and use as couch for reading area when we don't have guests. Low and behold I found an ad listed in the paper a couple of days ago for a daybed/trundle. I kept calling and calling and the folks never called me back, so I thought for sure it was sold. But for some reason I kept calling them to be sure, finally I called them at 6:30 am thinking I was missing them going to work or something. They got kind of peeved at me - but I apologized for calling so early and finally connected with them. It is a daybed/trundle including mattresses for a steal - only used for a guest once or twice. It includes two comforters and sheets, but I think they are kind of dated. If they are ok will use them temporarily with a few throw pillows. redcurls, I checked out Penny's but most were floral - those posted are from Penny's, but I didn't look through their regular ones. Will check them out. terriks, I just glanced in the bag and I think one of the comforters I got with the bed is the beige one you have linked to (been trying to keep everything bagged up till I get the baseboards in tomorrow - so I don't have to move everything around over and over again). The other is a robin's egg blue. I didn't even take them out of the bag when I was looking at the daybed, as I was in a rush to get somewhere else and just wanted to pay them for the daybed so someone else didn't get it before me. I will have pull them out of the bag and check further. I just figured they might be old and ratty looking but took them because they came with the deal. I might not need one after all - shall check it all out further tomorrow after putting in the baseboards - maybe I will only need a few throw pillows and one of those pillows that goes at the back - a bolster - or is a bolster for the sides? Wonder what you call the long low one at the back? Thanks again.

I bought my son a daybed when he was ..16 I guess? And he saw it as a huge upgrade and said "oh wow it's so grown up!" I must say though that my son is easy to please, in many instances. It's twin btw He's a thin boy, medium height, now he's 19, and it's good enough for both him and girllfriend when they come for a break from college. The girlfriend is slightly taller than him) (just to add -not that you need that info-that first time her visiting, it was a guest room for a young lady..then the request was put in..then I said she should clear it up with her parents..ok you get the picture-the bed is big and comfortable enough)) With daybed you control the mattress same as with regular bed, which is cool, 'cause frankly I'm very glad I got ours on huge sale, they wanted 1200$ or so for the bed that I with lots of patient waiting was able to buy for 400$-and let me tell you, 400$ reflects its quality more..Or so I think. But it looks good, and holds the mattress, Ours is from West Elm. It doesn't have the trundle so it's normal height We have another daybed with a trundle in a guest room, that one is higher. It's somehow very cool to fall asleep on, (unless one is elderly and it's too high and then I use a trundle if needed) but I wouldn't say it prompts one to use it more like a sofa. While lower daybed does. As for making the bed-all my childhood I would strip the bedding off in the morning, make the sofa bed look like a sofa, and pretty one too (my Grandma had a whole system I had to follow) , then put all the bedding back at night. Both me and my brother's bed . And on school breaks, I had to do the same for rest of sleeping spaces in the house.. We didn't have dedicated bedrooms with beds that looked like beds, so there you go. Matter of minutes, really. I agree that with bunk beds, it's harder. Well to me it's harder-I'm a small woman who doesn't like to climb anymore))
