Need suggestions for exterior paint and trim... help!
We are having our house repainted in a couple of weeks and I have so many options I like but also so many things to consider that I cannot come to a conclusion!!
I live in a small neighborhood with mostly traditional homes, no HOA, and they were built in the 90's. We've been here for 4 years and want a fresh and updated look without looking like the oddball in the neighborhood. There are a few houses around that have a more modern paint scheme, like all white 'farmhouse' feel, and another that is a light gray with dark gray trim and gutters.
We'd like to paint our trim and windows a dark shade as well to go for a more dramatic change and give our house a more updated look. We do have brick on the front and we are not too keen on painting it but it's kind of orange with dark gray and light gray mixed in. We replaced the columns already with cedar columns which we will stain after we paint the house to make sure we pick the appropriate stain color
We do not want blue siding, we also don't want white. Any thoughts on the shutters? The first two photos are of our house now, the rest are my feeble attempts at color visualizer LOL!! Thank you all so much in advance!

2 years agoA gray/green could also work with your brick. Agree with Celery on the shutters. Some of your windows are too wide for them.

Comments (2)The flat trim board under your windows will cause leaks if it was not flashed properly or if the sill nosing doesn't project and overhang enough for an effective drip (in the traditional manner). Sealant/caulk at that joint is only temporary. I've seen this detail cost owners a lot of money so make sure your contractor knows what he's doing. One solution is to add a projecting PVC sill nosing in place of the flat trim. It's difficult to beat the traditional double-hung window sill design. Hope someone will be able to advise me! We're in the middle of adding a second floor to a 50 year old ranch. We were very lucky in being able to match the old brick but now need to pick a trim color that will work with the new upstairs windows. They're wood frame, but the "individual panes" have a white vinyl. Currently, our house has BM's White Dove (OC-17) as the trim color. I'm thinking that's not white enough for the new windows? I'd really appreciate any suggestions as to a better trim color--maybe BM's Simply White or Decorator's White? Also, for interior trim, which is whiter--Cloud White or White Dove? Comments (5)From the pics that you posted, the only thing that really looks white is your garage door. Unless the whole house is in need of a paint job, I would paint the fascia a darker color. That may be enough to change the whole look of the house....See Moretangerina
