I loved Lucifer. It was on FOX and FOX cancelled it and Netflix picked it up for another 3 seasons. It's filmed in my city and I can't watch it. sniff, sniff.

I can see how that would be frustrating...but as someone who has no access to cable, I am happy to be able to see a lot of the shows via Hulu and Netflix that I wouldn't ever get to see otherwise.

I only watch on subscription services - I gave up cable close to 10 years ago. I don't watch a lot of new series, but some are great. Right now, I'm into Motherland: Fort Salem, and Dopesick. Very different, but both excellent (both on Disney + here in Canada).

Many people wanted cable to have a la carte pricing, so they wouldn't have to pay for, say, the sports channels that they never watched. So now things are trending that way...but the combined cost of the individual services can equal or sometimes even exceed the old cable bill (and of course it's often less, depending on how many you subscribe to). Be careful what you wish for....

I'd like to watch Star Trek.....but they put old ones on regular TV....not that great. The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston...I've heard it's good....never watched it. I guess there's something I could find to watch...but streaming has a TON of shows.

I caved and got netflix. I caved and got Disney Plus. How many more am I supposed to cave and get? The family keeps asking for more. If it were always the same one I’d probably cave but it’s not.

(ETA - Yes there’s a show that I’d like a subscription for. Can’t admit what though.)

My new iphone came with three months of free Apple TV. I just binged Ted Lasso and loved it. Now I will have to subscribe when season three comes out! I have Netflix and Prime. There have been a number of series Ive watched. I rationalize paying for them by thinking that the monthly cost is about the same as a ticket to a movie.

I have given up. We just don't watch enough TV to be nickel and dimed. We have Netflix and the premium channels. We watch one network show. Yeah, I miss a lot of movies that are only on streaming platforms, but so be it. I think this whole model will implode one day into some consolidated format. As is, it's becoming a joke.

I wait all year for the Tony Awards. Now it's on CBS+. The performances of the nominated shows are on regular CBS, but I can't see the awards given out.

Unless your cable cost is at a below average price, you should be able to replace it with streaming sources, add additional content sources, and in the end get more for less or at least more for the same money.

Explore your choices, there are many.

A few months ago DH turned off our cable. I haven't missed it a bit.

One thing I don't like is how to find things to watch on all those other services. Any hints, anyone?

I haven't watched much broadcast TV in a long time. Other than the reality-DIY channels (Animal Planet, NatGeo, HGTV, Food Network, etc.) nothing produced interests me. I rarely even watch local or national news anymore as it is always gloom and doom I can do without.

I have been subscribed to several streaming services for a number of years and I watch them almost exclusively. The monthly fees are negligible IMO, and since other forms of entertainment are now harder to come by or more difficult to access (movies, concerts, the few sporting events I would consider attending) and far more expensive anyway, that is not a burden. A minor investment in my single person happiness :-)

I get regular email updates for all my streaming services that keep me apprised of new shows and all have 'watch lists' where I can bookmark any shows I might be interested in watching. And most are searchable as well.

One thing I really like about streaming is the ability to see (usually) an entire series at one time....or at least a full season. Having wait for weekly installments on regular TV has become an irritation and I often forget the details of what I saw the week before. Or longer with some shows. I prefer to binge!! 🥴

I haven't paid for a tv service in years. Maybe 10 or more? I have Netflix and HBO max right now. So much cheaper.

More and more broadcast stations are selling? shows to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc. The top-rated shows move over there often.

Then Netflix will stop airing a show after a few seasons and then we have to find it on another stream.....Prime, Disney, etc. Makes for more money out of pocket for sure.

I was at a friend's apartment this am for an hour while she was out shopping. Flipping thru the stations trying to find something decent to watch was an exercise in futility. I'd never pay for cable. Finally settled on Rachael Ray.....how annoying she is! She still has her hair in her face, wearing bracelets and a long necklace with a dangle that was dangerously close to the raw turkey she was prepping.

I’ve written before that to cut costs and increase options, I share streaming service passwords with others and they with me. I pay for HULU ad-free and share with a friend who pays for HBO and shares with me Another friend gave me her Prime password in exchange. My grandson’s mother shares her Netflix with me. Surely, you all have family members or friends who would enjoy a similar arrangement to cut costs.

King of the Hill is on Netflix now, and I am not a member. I care very little about tv or movies...and that is one of the few that I like.

It varies from provider to provider and it can be a vague area, but - with some TV content services, providing sign on and password info to people not living in the same household is a violation of terms of use.

I believe that is true with Netflix, among others.

It's easy enough for any of them to know when this has happened because the receiving website gets the address of where each connection originates. (It's what's called the IP address). Multiple users and devices from within the same physical household would each show the same IP address, multiple users of the same account from different places would show different IP addresses. .

Netflix has said publicly that it's an area of concern about which they're trying to figure out what to do.. Among the choices would be to back-bill users showing a pattern of sign on sharing, or to cancel the subscription and refuse a reconnect. or other things. Most of the supplemental services are not that expensive, I'm not sure what the attraction or need is to violate terms of use. To me, it's a form of stealing.
