You should be able to put it relatively close to the east window, if not directly in front of it. It is a pretty adaptable plant and I've found that as long as it's close to a window it should be ok. The light through the glass is just fine. No sense in wasting electricity by having the A/C running while a window's open! This plant will indeed recover. It will take some time, and what is brown now won't be green again. But it will eventually be ok given enough light. As Toni said, fertilize it once a month, especially if you plant to give it strong light. And do keep an eye out especially for spider mites in that dry heat! Though they can also get nasty mealy infestations. I personally disagree with the misting suggestion since theres no benefit to be had. It will cool the plant for only a few minutes in that high heat, and the water that does evaporate will not stay by the plant to humidify it. If you plan to spray it once every 10 minutes, THEN you might see a benefit, otherwise its a wasted time. However, it won't hurt anything to spray once or twice a day, so if it makes you feel better, spray away!

Two dozen! They'll take over the world!!!! What is it you want to cut down? Are last year's flowers still on there, now crispy brown things? The plant itself only grows a couple of inches high, not much to cut down. They do spread sideways though! I pull off the flowers when they are dead at the end of summer. My plants are well-established and I hack them back mercilessly at any time, but you should probably give yours a little more time before getting too aggressive.

I just looked and have 3 seeds left for the Devils Toothpick. If I remember right the crickets are still belching and farting from eating the plants that were outside. In the next week or so I'm hoping to get out and inventory the plants and get rid of the extras/doubles and see what I have growing then I can put the rest out. I've got almost all of my summer crop out there but I'm running out of room. Too many Manzanos are getting too big. The peppers are really liking the soil mix I'm using. If it still is ok when the 100 degree weeks start I'll have found the perfect mix for the way I grow my peppers. Only lost a dozen plants during the winter so I started out 150 or so plants ahead this year. Everything is looking like if I can keep the bugs at bay I'll have one of the better harvests I've had in a long time. Lots of buds and pods out there now. Re potted my Habanero tree(arbol)and it's as tall as the eves of the roof and filled with new branches.It's already 6+ ft. wide and 7-8ft. high.I'll need a ladder to pick pods again this year. I've got 3 more of them that want to do the same.Gotta find a home for 2 of them if I can. I wanted to mail them to people but it's too expensive. E mail me about what you have to trade and or what you are looking for. I'm up to 820 something varieties but don't have seeds for all of them to trade etc. If i can glue a few buds on each of my plants shut before they open I'll have a lot of seeds in mid summer and fall. I've got some rare stuff out there and if I can get the plants to put out the pods I'll be set up with seeds to spread around soon from the pods I have now. The Baccatums and Pubescens are really going off now.The Annuums are starting to bud too.

You most definitely need to keep the soil moist. I'm assuming they are in pots? The general logic of keeping them cool and dry in winter is for when they are planted in the ground. In other words, they shouldn't be irrigated in winter, and less humidity is desirable. That doesn't apply if you have them in pots. I'd imagine that temperature isn't a problem, as long as it's above 40 degrees...which it must be if all of those other plants are doing well. The only other thing I can think of is that the leaves do have a life expectancy, and when new vegetative growth starts, the older leaves start to brown and drop off. Generally, the vegetative growth should show up in time to replace the older leaves, but if the temps in your greenhouse are too low, that new growth may be delayed a bit. Vegetative growth initiates around 70 degree temps. I would strongly recommend that you maintain a good watering schedule. The hardest part for me is keeping my lychees moist but not drowned. I try to water just to the point of absorption, but not saturation. You may want to give them a good drink for the next week, then start a regular schedule. I hope that helps.
