Kitchen Backsplash Do or Don't

We'll be replacing our countertops and backsplash soon. Is tiling around the kitchen window up to the ceiling still a thing or has that style run its course?

I don't love my backsplash
Comments (24)I love the paint color, but I think I'm agreeing with Igloo in imagining that a shade or two darker would bring out the deeper tones in the backsplash and liven it up a bit. Right now the cabinets, backsplash, and wall are all the medium tones and are blending, rather than having some contrast and interest to energize the space. I also agree that the equal spacing of equally sized appliances/accessories on the counter create a monotonous rhythm, whereas some more interesting or even random grouping might be preferable. Comments (3)Slabs differ to some extent, so if you've chosen yours, perhaps you can post an image of it, and your wall color. Also, it would help to know what kind of feeling you want in your kitchen - contemporary, traditional, modern, etc... But New Venetian Gold has lots of earth tones in it that allow it to coordinate well with many materials, and while it has a lot of speckles, they're pretty small, giving the stone a greater uniformity of color overall than many granites. The top image is a slab view, with progressive magnification. With white cabs and black appliances, you might want to consider a cool brown or a warm grey color tile. If you like the subway look but want to keep it modern, play with the tile size. Comments (9)Ours doesn't line up on one side of our kitchen we are redoing. We are using subway tile for the backsplash so we got the half finished edge tiles for the end and lined it up with the top cabinet. The bottom cabinet and counter are about 6 inches farther out. Comments (6)Well, sorry I still have not taken pictures but I HAVE had that strip of granite pulled out.. I really felt it was distracting from my enjoyment of the granite as a whole since it just felt overwhelming. I'm much happier with it now -- I feel the room breathes more. But now I have the big dilemna -- what will I do for a backsplash! I will post pictures....See More
