Don't like my granite backsplash above sink

OK, maybe I'm wrong, but I really don't like the way my kitchen looks with my Madura Gold granite as a 5-inch backsplash between the sink and passthrough-bar above. It just looks too heavy and brown (my cabinets are stained maple) and looks like too much granite to me.

But everyone says I will be making a mistake to take out that granite strip and replace it --eventually -- with tile. Right now I have a 5-inch (or it may be 6) strip that goes above my sink across to the next cabinets. It runs up to the granite bar that sits on the passthrough into the family room. On the cooking side of the kitchen there is no granite backsplash at all and we will be putting tile there.

Not sure if I'm making any sense, but I would love to know if anyone else has a) experienced that too-much granite feeling or b) regretted not having the granite strip as a sink backsplash.

Thanks!
