Either of your cabinet selections would work I think. Since the laundry room is quite small I would fill the wall with as much cabinetry as possible.

I like the idea of even a small countertop. I place to set something like a stack of folded clothes.

Thank you for your help! One huge concern that my husband has is if we build the tower into cabinets how can we pull out the tower if we need to service it? Since this space is so small there wouldn’t be a lot of wiggle room to maneuver around.

• Charisse, serviceability is important. The first picture is beautiful but I was wondering how in the heck does someone easily pull those units out? It almost looks like they were installed and then the cabinets built surrounding them. Just make certain there is room to be able to grasp the machines/tower and slide them out. Kate offers a great suggestion about having an area to place folded laundry as it is coming out of the dryer. It gets old very quickly taking a dryer full of articles to another room to fold.

Either will work- only you know your storage and folding needs (I always fold on a bed...) Regarding servicing- it is no different than a stacked unit in a closet- both come out together so you need to make sure that there is enough clear space in front of the unit for it to pull straight forward... I Can't quite understand the layout but you might need to center the unit with cabinets on both sides...

In terms of folding - our laundry room is right next to our family room so I've been folding clothes on my couch for 18 years - mostly because my traditional washer/dryer was always covered with junk! I'm trying to create a much cleaner/organized space with this new set. However, I can see the advantage of having some counter space.

As far as centering goes, we've thought about it, but the issue with that is that the water valves and hoses go into the wall (about 4 feet up) on the right side of the washer/dryer (hard to see in the picture) so we need to leave room to access/shut off if needed.

In our area of Canada, the Ikea boxes of cupboard units are all out of stock, with no anticipated delivery date. You might want to check out the availability before you invest too much time, in case you need to change your plans

Yes! I was noticing that! Our IKEA just received a new shipment in so the boxes that we would need are currently in stock - but that could change quickly!

I agree seviceability is always important and i like the idea of that small counter to at least take give folded clothes a place to sit.. I would not bother with thecabinets above the dryer since tat will reqiuire having a step stool to reach and that will take up space . I also like the split cabinets because there will be a way to ut that cabinet on casters so that it can be moved out if moving the tower is at some time an issue

Putting cabinets on casters is a fantastic idea!

This is what I have in mind: Two 15" wide by 90" high cabinets to the left of the washer/dryer. The one closest to the wall would be 24" deep and would have drawers and doors. The second box would be 15" deep and I'm wondering if just open shelves would be the most convenient? That unit would be flush and attached to the other cabinet but somehow removeable (maybe on casters?). By having it 15" deep it would accomodate the large plug in in the back, along with the dryer vent. Then we would run a shelf above the washer for large, but light,

bins of storage. I'd also love to continue using my laundry shoot so a basket would be up there as well. And yes, I would need a stool to get the basket :(

I have had two homes with counter tops for folding. I never hardly ever fold on them.

I hang most things and like having an area to hold baskets. I would like a small standalone cabinet ( maybe 3 to 4 feet tall ) to the right with a basket on top for the chute. You could do wire racks to hold baskets on the left with hanging clothes on top.

You could use adjustable shelving. You could even keep the dog bowls there.

Why do you need cabinets for storage?

Thanks Karenseb! We'd like some cabinets to hide the cleaning products and clutter. Since it's a mudroom and a walk through to our garage it is nice to have it feeling a bit organized!

we will have exact same unit in our new home. can you tell me how the dryer is vented? the builder put the water outlets on one side and a recessed dryer vent on the other side of a 5.5ft wide space. where does the venting exit the washtower dryer?

Do I see a laundry chute to the right and above your washer and dryer? Do you use it? Perhaps you can incorporate a laundry hamper into the top portion of a rolling cupboard to accommodate it.

Hi KB B - We're actually still waiting to get someone out to create a new vent for us. It's takkng forever to find someone! Our current vent is not up to code (and house is only 25 years old!) so we need to do it right. The vent is just slightly above the middle line of the washtower and we're hoping it can go straight out the back so we can add the cabinets to the left side. We're not sure how it will all work yet as the one company said they would use a rigid vent, but then we're wondering how we would be able to manuever it out in case we need to get access. It's defintiely a work in progress and not as simple as I hoped it would be!

ptreckel - we use the laundry chute all the time! I'm hoping that we can someone have a shelf over the unit and have a basket sitting on top of that. We may need to create a longer chute in order to direct the clothes into the cabinet - definitly won't be as neat as all the pictures I drool over on Pinterest!
