The piece is roughly the same age as the condo, late 1960s to mid 1970s "Spanish Meditteranean". I am guessing the doors are lightweight and the dimensional panels on the front are some sort of wood product or may be plastic.

I would love to spruce this old piece up and place it somewhere.

Should I ditch it?

You should do what you want but if it were mine, I wouldn't ditch it because it sounds as if it has functional storage and in my amateur opinion, all its curvy details would juxtapose interestingly with the minimalist modern angles of your new place. Also, it looks little like what is currently on the retail marketplace and to me, that's a good thing. That said, curves and more ornate detailing are coming back in furniture so I wouldn't be surprised to see an appreciation for well-made Spanish revival pieces return. (1st Dibs has about 200 Spanish Revival items.) How to spruce it up is another thing though. How much sprucing up does it need? I love natural wood finishes against white walls so I wouldn't be in a hurry to paint it if the finish looks good enough. Where could you place it in your new place?

If you like it keep it. Can you use it in a spare room for storage? I would not want it in my minimalist living space.

I would call it Spanish Baroque. I'm doubting it is a real antique piece though. Before you ditch it I would try painting it. That might help bring it towards mid-century modern. If that doesn't work you can always sell, donate or give to someone. I can envision it in a lighter color that might tone down some of the detailing. Good luck!

I often have clients who have pieces that really have a soft place in their hearts but really do not work in their present home I use those pieces in a walk in closet they are perfect for accessories . I love the juxtaposition of very old and very contemporary so maybe just wait and see . Sometimes there is a spot that just needs SOMETHING. If it is not a preciuos antique you could even paint it for spash of color somewhere. It honestly does not look precious to me but I am not even close to being an expert on this type of furniture I remember in the 70's really Spanish influence furniture was popular so my guess from that era.

Then remove the top four doors and replace with glass inserts or maybe just two large doors with glass inserts and shelving and then build it in somewhere.

I can't enlarge your RE pics to make out much detail but it seems as if previous owners had a hutch near the kitchen. Perhaps this armoire could be useful in the same spot. Repurposed as bar or coffee cabinet, for example. It all depends on what type of storage you need and where you need it but I think it would probably look fabulous near the stone fireplace. Fwiw, I wouldn't be tempted to paint the piece as it would indeed dissimulate the carvings and the details that define it.

Palm Springs house with Spanish Colonial details

Gorgeous house. Keep it. I see several spots it could be used perhaps as a bar cabinet? There are so many needs when moving to a new place. Then, if it doesn’t work give to a needy organization. I could see it painted turquoise as an accent piece. Just depends on your other furnishings. Wait to figure out color until you are more settled in. Btw, look into a foam lifting system to improve that driveway. I suspect it has been undermined by improper drainage. It is half or less the cost of replacement. Really works. We did it on our previous home. Congratulations!

It's not an antique at this point. It was stylish in the same period as MCM. While not exactly complimentary to MCM, I would keep it as a useful piece of furniture. You might have seen this in the Brady Bunch house.

I have an antique Regency armoire that I put into use as a media cabinet back in the day when you had thick TV's and humongo stereo systems. Now that everything is flat panel and speakers are smaller than a loaf of bread, I have repurposed the armoire. It now holds my Tupperware and plastic kitchen containers along with my good dining room linens. Bottom line, armoires are always useful pieces of furniture.

Because it does not have a high value quotient, but does have a high usefulness quotient, I suggest that it be repurposed as a bar, in your home office for office supply storage, in a bedroom for linen and pillow storage, in a hallway as bathroom supply storage, or in a closet as a dresser and clothing storage. I would consider painting this piece white or black. It could work as a pop of color. But, I'd only paint it once, hence black, white or ivory. As Spanish Colonial pieces go, this an attractive piece and a very useful piece of furniture.

I wonder how it would look if you could really lighten the wood. Not sure how you'd do that, I just think it would be even more interesting if it looked like bleached wood. I'm inspired by the piece in the existing owners' house under the stairs.
