Are you wedded to the recliner remaining in that spot? (it appears it's the prime tv viewing seat) Or will you consider the TV in another spot to allow more flexibility in arranging furniture before you decide which piece to purchase?

What did you have in mind??? It would be a hassle to move all the wires for the TV but it's not impossible...just have to go under the house and pull to new location.

What did you have in mind? I do like the prime TV seat but as long as it's a decent view I don't mind as I have a dedicated theater room for movies.

I assume the TV is to the left of that fan or filter or whatever it is? So it would be parallel to the recliner? Is it in a corner, or flat against a wall?

I can't seem to find the other thread you mention -- you can just link it if it shows your layout more clearly.

From the pics above, I'm wanting to see the recliner in the corner where the torchiere is, a sofa along the wall and a loveseat floating (as in the last pic). But before I can even say that, I want to see the layout. :)

DEFINITELY 2 sofas. I've always had 2 sofas in my family rooms. Love seats are a waste as they really only seat 1 person unless the 2 people know each other well. Also, you can't stretch out on a loveseat like you can a sofa. You can't regret getting 2 sofas.

I agree with Arlene. We have two sofas in our living room, perpendicular to the fireplace. Very comfortable.

Walt, I didn't have anything particular in mind and will defer to the pros here. But I think, like Avesmor suggested, my eye would prefer the two sofas in an L shape with the recliner the odd man out somewhere else in the room. Or sofas flanking your great new fireplace, or one flanking, one facing, but whatever/wherever not separated by the recliner. If the recliner and one sofa matched in color and the other piece (couch, loveseat) was the different color, then maybe, but the dark between the light pieces looks too disjointed to me.

I just moved into a new home and for the first time ever I have two couches. I love it! I say if you have the room, go for it.

Have you thought of reorienting the furniture that goes across the living room in the opposite direction and integrating the TV into the built in behind the current sofa? Right now the furniture turns its back on the entry into the room.

I don't have much advice on your room, (sorry!!), but I'm wondering if you would share what color your walls are please. I love them!

We have a couch, loveseat and 2 recliners, if that helps.

Thanks for all the responses. I think we're going to go with two couches. I have a "little" problem with the recliner..it's just much smaller than my old one. I'm 6'2 225 and I fit okay but my feet hang off just a bit. I really don't want to get a traditional cushy recliner so maybe I'll learn to deal with it. We'll explore our options at the store.

The french doors are to the back yard...front door entrance you go through our kitchen and the other opening is from our garage.

Paint color is SW Samovar Silver.

In our experience a love seat= two seats. A couch=two seats so we opted for love seat recliners. I would put the love seat against the wall and the rest I would fill with chairs. That give you more options and the ability to get around the room.

Well, here is the end result! The recliner didn't cut it and this one may not be as good looking but boy is it more comfortable to me.

That recliner goes better with the style of your couches. I was going to suggest going with a fabric chair to break up all the leather, but for some reason with your new chair, it doesnt bother me as much. The hardwood will change everything & will look so great.

I actually prefer the new recliner and the couches are beautiful. Fun to see it coming together. I swear I want to bottle whatever it is you are running on. I mean, you and your wife really get things done!! And the results are great.

I like the location of the new recliner much better than where you had the 1st one. Have you thought of moving the 2nd sofa next to the end table or does it make the entrance from the kitchen too difficult?

We actually tried to move both sofa's next to the end table but we thought it looked funny since there was a large space and then the table...a little difficult to explain and I'm sure a pic would help. This would also close up one of the entrances to the sitting area.

I'm having a hard time adjusting to the new position of my recliner. Once we put up curtains I can see them getting in my way and I don't get any draft from the ceiling fan over in my corner. Sooooo, there may be a few changes later down the road. We also tried putting the recliner next to the fireplace and didn't care for that. I can post more pics of different layouts once the flooring is installed.

I am sure you know this--but make sure you have the heavy duty protectors on the bottom of your couches and recliner before you move them back onto the hardwoods--especially if you plan on moving them around. It is so easy to scratch hardwoods. Even with the protectors, I would try to lift furniture when possible.

Did you try it with the sofa moved down that wall, the recliner near the doorway and an end table between them? Also move the coffee table in front of the other sofa. Might work better than the recliner being in the corner.

I'm liking the arrangement in your last pics, but I'm wondering if you could pull the recliner/chair and sofa off the wall and into the room more. Would give you a walk behind space from the kitchen to the recliner without having to walk through the seating area and interupting conversations.

May also make the recliner view of the TV better.

You might also want to consider doing the TV at a slight angle instead of the full corner angle as well and use a non-corner unit or a slight wrap unit (can't buy ready though)

I am confused! I thought you did not like the white brick and planned to paint it a darker shade of the wall paint. ?

Will there be a print fabric to tie in the off white couches, the brown recliner, the grey wall color, the white woodwork and the darker wood tones? Will this tie in with the brown and gold tones in the art above the mantel?

Once your new flooring is in, could you try putting one of the sofas on the wall with the windows, the other one facing the fireplace, your recliner facing the fireplace, and the tv on the other side of the fireplace? This might open up the whole room more and would also give you a view out the French doors. I'm waiting to see that new flooring!

waltbsc, your room looks great. I am looking at samovar silver for my master. It sure looks great in your space. What are you seeing in this color, grays, greens, blues???? My monitor does strange things with color so I cannot tell. Thank you and you have done a great job with your space.
