Any exercise equipment good for home ?
Comments (20)I know this is a response to an old thread, but in case anyone else just happens to come across this thread: I don't want to spend money on a gym, where I have to exercise with a bunch of other people around. Not happening. So, I do the following (and has worked for me): * Take 10 minute walks whenever possible -- break time, lunch time, after work -- if the weather is inclement, go to the Mall, CostCo (just don't grab a cart) or Sam's Club. * Do you have stairs in your house? Run up and down the stairs a lot. It helps if you can make an errand, like taking things up and bringing things back down. * Find workouts online, on TV, or buy some DVD's. My favorite on TV is Classical Stretch (PBS) because it's elegant, and you do strengthening and conditioning as well as low-impact aerobics. I'm a school teacher, so one of my other favorite workouts online are with Fresh Start Fitness and Zumba Kids, both done with my students (we all get exercise and have fun doing it). * Every area of the country has trails somewhere. On weekends, find your local trails and hike them, now that the weather is turning nice almost everywhere. * My husband and I took out a membership to our local zoological society. It helps that we live near enough to the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Safari Park (formerly Wild Animal Park). Both parks are huge. We walk. And walk. Uphill. Downhill. Then Uphill some more. Last Saturday, we walked 4 miles at the Safari Park. Oh, and we got to see some amazing animals, too. Depending on where you live, you may have a huge zoo or animal park nearby where you will get some walking in. Donna...See MoreAlmost ready to sign contract. Thoughts?
Comments (12)Thanks all! Already great advices and concerns. Now my biggest concern, is does liability really fall on the one who pulled permits? If that's the case, that's pretty huge, they are taking no responsibility for the build? That is something that wasn't mentioned, and that I will have no part of. Thank you very much for that info! Do you have any links that explains that, so that I could print it and show to the PB if needed? Equipement purchase: He told me he's done that a few times already to save the owner a few $. I was actually the one who asked him if I can buy the equipement directly, and he said "sure, let me put you in touch with my suppliers see what they can do". His suppliers are a well know reputable business, so not worried about them. Yes, if something stops working, I assume I'd have to call the manufacturer directly, instead of calling the builder and have them call. Power Line over pool: He did give me the official document from the DWP that states you can have a line over water if above 12ft. Mine is 12ft on the dot on one corner. Just seems too close so I want to double check, I might want to move it but need to know what's involved. Final Payment: So I can change the contract to have it include last payment is at swimtime? I just don't know what to think anymore.. Again, I did have a pretty good feeling about the PB in general, and the company is not a fly-by-night ( http://www.designerpools.net ) although I believe the original Bill Smith sold the franchise to a few builders a few years ago. He is going the extra mile to try to make it happen, pricewise, maybe he's just really trying to help me deal with this situation. He knows we're building the pool for my 3 year old son with a muscular disease, I just thought he was trying to help us. But now with this new permits/liability info, I wonder.. I'll try to make some calls to the city to see if I can get the liability info in writing. Thanks for all the info, keep them coming....See MoreRate my space - sez 'cheap & tacky - WHAT??
Comments (41)I saw a show a few months ago where Vern Yip was evaluating peoples' home decor expenditures. He walked into a kitchen where the backsplash was white subway tile, and over the huge gorgeous range there was a built-in niche shelf of the same subway tiles laid at a different angle framed with white edge tiles. Understated and very nice....IMHO. He threw a fit - a big silly fit - said he thought it should be ripped out at once as it was so hideous etc. etc. He couldn't get past it - a simple niche shelf in the same tile as the backsplash. I was stunned - guess he was having a bad day. I saw another show where a designer went on and on disparaging a granite countertop saying "granite is so last year - everyone demands quartz now." Bottom line - our homes need to reflect what we love because there will always be someone who won't like it and will say so. Your kitchen is lovely - and I do like nice drapery in a room and I thought your valance was wonderful. I love Candace Olson on Divine Design - she always uses beautiful fabrics in any room she does - your rug and valance reminded me of her....See MoreExercise Room turned Guest Bedroom Finishing Touches
