Begonia in water in need of help

Hello! I received this clipping from a Begonia that my mother has had for 20+ years, and she told me I could keep it in water for as long as I want and it'll be just fine. This sounds easy, but the plant has started to dry out in certain spots and I'm looking to plant her in soil so that she can start growing well again. This cutting has been in water well over a year and the roots are really used to water... in the photos you can see how they look. They don't look like my other plants' roots (white and strong), they're very weak. Does anyone have suggestions on how to plant this cutting in soil after so long being in water? I'm worried it'll just be shocked if I plant it right away and I'm also not even sure she would survive the planting because of how long she's been in the water. I change the water regularly and she gets indirect sunlight (though was previously doing a lot better in a spot with very little indirect light, just shade!)... Thanks for any help or thoughts!
