Cattleya...blooming size?
Comments (4)It all depends on the type of cattleya. Is it a standard type large-flowering cattleya (which usually blooms when they are in about a 5" pot and over a foot tall with a sheath or sheaths.) Some miniature and semi-miniature catts bloom at a smaller size and smaller pot. You say that it is a bi-foliate cattleya. Again, if the plant is in a 5" pot it should be close to flowering. From seed, a cattleya takes on average 7 to 8 years to adult blooming size. Some may bloom earlier, depending on type....See MoreCattleya's blooming
Comments (5)It's okay to bring the flowering plant into the house, but make sure it is not directly under an a/c vent. A place indoors where it is bright but not in direct sun would be ideal. I had spread divisions around my yard as soon as I got it but for whatever reason the only one that established was the one on my tree. garlicgrower, thanks! You can do the same thing in Massachusetts...just on a smaller scale. Figure out which potted trees you can grow indoors over the winter and then attach some miniature orchids to them. Comments (2)Great photos!! The waxy texture of the chocolate drop is fantastic. I have a hybrid in sheath for the first time after 4 years, and it has chocolate drop as one of it's parents...hopefully mine will be as floriforous as yours. The caulocatt is cool...interesting how that spade lip from the caularthron gets passed down to...See Morebea (zone 9a -Jax area)
