Anyone's type (back to orchids) is related more to geography than anything else. I love Odontoglossums, also D cuthbersonii but unless you live in San Francisco, or there about, these things are difficult. I'm putting the finishing touches on a 'cold' greenhouse and will give them another try. My backyard in SOCAL is ideal for growing Australian Dendrobiums. I neither have to mount or pot them, just throw them anywhere and they'll grow. I have a large collection of D speciosums in every shade or size which are easy and rewarding and are definitely my favorite plants. They all bloomed at the same time this spring and by mid afternoon the fragrance filling the backyard was nothing short of delightful. This next year will see a concentrated effort to acquire Draculas, Pleuros, Masdies, Odonts and other cold loving species. The other half of the newly built GH will be 'warm' so at a slower pace Bulbos etc will also be welcomed. I have given up on the other types mentioned earlier, definitely high maintenance items. They also have strange ideas such as 'portions of the backyard should be devoted to growing grass and dirt flowers'. Why???? You have to pay someone for fertilizer so the the grass will grow, then pay some one else to cut it when it does grows. With completion of the double GH, every square inch of my backyard is now devoted to orchid growing. Emotionally, 6 grown children, all living in California, their revolving set of significant others and 7 adorable grand children, more coming, keep me occupied. I wake up in the morning and look upon the earth and it is good. Life is good. Nick

phalgirl, I live in the Indianapolis area and have been purchasing flasks from Howard for more than 5 years. Of these 8 flasks, 1 had only 20, but most had about 25 and several had more than 30. They are all large plants and could have gone directly into 3 inch pots, but I put them into 5 inch community pots. I sprayed them with very dilute Physan, allowed them to dry and then put them into gallon size Ziploc bags. I will leave them in the sealed bags for about two weeks and then I will fold the edge of the bag down to form a tear drop like opening. After two weeks in the partially opened bag they are ready to come out into the real world. I have done this many, many times and the success rate is more than 99%, even with seedlings that are barely more than protocorms. Don't overdo it with the Physan. I use about 10 drops into a 12 oz spray bottle. Diluted hydrogen peroxide will work just as well. It is important to keep the bags out of direct light for this 4 week period. Also, do not soak the medium. The roots will do much better if they can breath a little. Do keep an eye out for any watery looking leaves and if you see this, spray with additional Physan. This is a very rare occurance if you let the seedlings dry before sealing them in the plastic bags. Mike
