You will need to post some pictures or some sort of floor plan. Usually symmetry on base cabinets is ignored because it is not important. These cabinets need to be your work horse for storage and function. Put your spice rack in but then on the other side I would do a nice big 36" pots and pans drawerbase - forget about breaking it up into 2 cabinets

I would love to do a 36" drawer but this company doesn't have that size. First time uploading photos so hopefully this works - it's the floor plan and the stove side rendering of what I originally wanted. I'm thinking I may just need to get custom cabinets instead of dealing with stock sizes.

If they don't have a 27" pot/pan drawer, they are NOT semi-custom. More than likely an import cabinet line. They often have 24, 30 and 36" sizes....not 27 or 33. Kraftmaid, Medallion, Shiloh and a zillion other true semi-custom lines have 27" drawer stacks.

That filler piece on the uppers next to the fridge would be a deal-breaker for me (assuming that gigantic beam is structural - there HAS to be a better layout option to work around it). Agree with @thekitchenplace These options seem pretty limited for semi-custom cabinets.

The beam is structural and oddly doesn't bother me as much as the lower cabinet issues. The company I'm dealing with only has 24 and 30" drawers (no 27 or 36") and only has 9" pull out cabinets (no 6" or 12"). So my options are basically cabinets instead of drawers or find someone else and now I'm leaning towards the latter.

Thanks Anj_p. I'm left handed so the dishwasher flows better on the left for me. I actually was going to use one pull out cabinet for utensils/knives and probably the other for some spices and then ziploc bags/saran wrap on the lower section. I'd actually be happy with a 36" drawer and no spice cabinet but not an option with this company.

Handedness really shouldn't figure into the equation...but usually the hand you hold the dish with would be the side that's more comfortable to have the DW...so if you're right handed, the DW feels better on the left. I have had both and honestly I don't care. I'm right handed and it feels better on the left, but in my next house it will be on the right so it's out of my prep space.

Your prep space should be either to the left of your sink, or between your range and fridge...if you keep your DW where it is, it will be in the way when you cook.

Get a better cabinet line. You're desling with a super limited stock size import line. You aren't dealing with any semi custom level of cabinets. If they represented themselves as that, thats grounds for moving on right the heck now

@anj_p Funny I've always had the prep to the right of my sink in every house I've been in. That's always felt more natural to me.

@JDC90403 Prep space is really defined by where your appliances are. In your case, pros would put the DW on the other side and put the prep space to the left because most people wouldn't want to haul things from the fridge to the other side of the sink (distance). And with the DW where you have it, you can't have it open while someone is trying to cook (either for a helper to empty, or for you to clean/fill as you cook). Obviously if you don't think it works for you, you should do what will.
