color match for cocoa colored tub for a boys/men's bathroom
Comments (3)I would replace the toilet with biscuit or white if you can't match the cocoa tub. I would like a combination of dark brown vanity and sage/olive green accents. Maybe the countertop could be white or a stone that ties into the cocoa. Tiles could be off-white or white with some accents that pick up the cocoa. Or a stone that ties into the cocoa. Is it a shower/bath? Use a "masculine" print (stripes?) with these colors for the shower curtain. It's easier to work around a colored tub than a toilet and sink; it's mostly covered by the shower curtain, anyway. You're lucky it isn't pink or powder blue! Cocoa is pretty neutral....See MoreTub/shower combo & 2 sinks or Separate Tub & Shower & 1 sink
Comments (7)Is there any way to run plumbing to the separate vanity area to make it into a sink? We are doing a gut remodel of our bathroom and we were able to cram in the shower, 5'6" claw foot tub, toilet and two sinks (on adjacent walls though, not next to each other) in a slightly less than 10'x11' space including sloped ceilings and a couple of windows. Here is an older version of our plan for the bathroom but shows the two sinks. The one next to the tub is a console sink (on chrome legs) so very open and the tub is now a double ended tub with plumbing in the middle. Here is a newer plan showing a tile layout I was messing with and the right tub. It also shows a bump out for a knee wall where the new drain is going to run - it turns out there was steel angle along that wall and we could not run the drain line under it so had to go through. It's more of a challenge to get the water there but wasn't impossible....See MoreBisque color for sinks, tile, etc vs white?
Comments (9)I'm no old house expert, although I live in a house that was built in the 1920's. I love bisque--had almond in the early days. I'm trying to give my kitchen (which was gutted by a PO in the 1980's) a more vintage look, including bisque appliances and 'Adobe White' painted cabinets. It all reads as white until you look at something pure white against the bisque. I recently found a porcelain stove from the 1930's: Against the 'Adobe White' closet door, (reflecting camera flash) the stove looks dark, but when I look at it, I see cream and green. I've read that oil-based paints often yellowed, so maybe painted surfaces weren't bright white for very long. BTW, your plans for the kitchen floor sound wonderful--I'd love to do a checkerboard floor. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress pics and finished project. antiquesilver, we did the same thing with a bathtub that was blue--had it professionally painted bisque, then I painted the ceramic wall tile in the room with 'Lovely Buff' epoxy. Love it!...See MorePlacement of contrast/accent tiles in tub/shower surround etc.
Comments (29)This is so helpful, everybody! I realize I should have specified that I have a 9' ceiling in the bathroom, so it's taller than either the length (almost 8') or width (almost 7') of the room. That's part of the reason I don't want to run tile all the way up to the ceiling. I think it would look overwhelmingly tall and out of proportion. House Vixen, I'm having trouble seeing what you're describing as running bond – unless you mean in the field tile itself. I do rather like that pattern used with square tiles. (I confess I'm getting a little tired of rectangular subway tile absolutely everywhere, which is not to say there aren't a lot of bathrooms that use it that are both period and gorgeous.) House Vixen, btw I love the baseboard+floor border further set off by red pencil liner in that yellow bath....See MoreJilly
