I like your current nightstands but would probably paint them. I do like the bed you are looking at. If I were you I would probably switch the place of the long and short dresser.

Thanks Cecilia, Have switched the dressers and it looks better. originally I had them located the way they were because of the floor vent which is now at about the middle of the long dresser. i have it pulled away from the wall. Maybe an air diverter like this will allow me to pus the dresser closer to the wall.

Can you rotate the rug 90* and move it down so it's below the foot of the bed? I would make replacing the curtains a priority, even if you just go with an off white shade.

Thanks P Banos. Agree, the rug positioning might need to be adjusted, it doesn't seem quite right as is. Though not quite as bad as it appears in the photos. Normally more rug shows at the bottom of the bed, but the bed is temporarily pushed back from the wall a couple feet. Will push it back into place tomorrow after bed delivery. Hope I get the positioning of the rug and bed correct this time. Definitely need curtains. I think off white/ ivory is a good plan. Considering outside mounted roman blinds, but not sure if that would be best and due to this indecisiveness, nothing's been done. Maybe I should start a post asking the wonderful folks at Houzz for help.

Well you already did. Glad you want to change the curtains, as that will make the room much more restful. Post a new photo when you get the bed and rotate the rug. Then we can work on getting as much cohesion out of your pieces as possible. If you have a budget, no matter how modest, let us know. There's a lot that can be done with paint and thrifting.

Thanks for your suggestion to reposition the rug, I think it looks much better! The bed was purchased on recommendation of a designer, but at this point I am regretting it.

Came up with a $5K budget (that was before the bed arrived on the scene🤔 ) Luckily have some flexibility on the budget.

I'll take a closer look later, busy now, but I will say I think the room looks better already! The rug position is good. I think we can start small with lighting and window treatments.

Glad you like the bed, Cecilia! Yes, those nightstands are a part of a set with the long dresser. The dresser has been repainted and hardware cleaned of original finish. The nightstands have the original paint and hardware finish.

I think the nightstands could look really good itf painted to match the dresser. Are you wanting to change it up and do something different for the nightstands? If you could find something you like for art inspiration for over the bed that could also be a good place to start. Do you like landscapes? Do you like antiques? Maybe you could find something you really like at an antique shop or consignment? If you like new, find something that is inspiring to you and has color that you would like to see in the room. Need a few ideas? These are all very different but just to see if any strike your fancy.

I thought those nightstands matched the cabinet! If you could paint match them to the cabinet it would help tie the room together. You could add a touch of the blue with a pillow or throw.

Replace the window treatments with white, or off white as needed to work with your rug. Exterior mount blinds would be fine, but since the trim is pretty an inside mount is ok too. Just don't have the top trim covered and the side trim exposed like now. With the window in the corner maybe an inside mount will be easier to hang cleanly.

I don't really mind the mismatched lamp bases, but don't care for the different heights and shade colors. Could you move the taller lamp to the blue cabinet, and replace one or both of the nightstand lamps. Or get them about the same height by raising the shorter one up. Maybe on some nicely bound old books. And make the shade colors to match. I've both spray painted (paper or tightly pressed fabric) and dyed (fabric) shades. You'll still want a larger lamp on the cabinet or a floor standing lamp. I put all my bedroom lights on remote control outlet plugs so I can switch them without getting up.

I really think your existing nightstands would look fabulous painted to match the dresser, but if you did not want to do that, I saw a few interesting side table options. Also found some lamps that I think would look great from Pottery Barn as well as a bedding collection from West Elm

that I think would look nice in either the white, dark gray or in a fun color, depending on the art you want to use.

The nightstands are the right size and shape for the room. If you like the dresser colour, paint the nightstands to match, then repeat the blue in other parts of the room. Or repaint all 3 pieces. The long dresser looks good centered under the window as you have it.

The bombe dresser would look better centered in the space between edge of your future window covering and the corner.

Seems the consensus is to keep the matching nightstands. and paint them and at this point, I think that's the way I'll go. Probably same color that's on the long dresser. It appears to be blue in the pics but is actually a green/grey. Went to blinds to go and home depot today and am ordering samples of fabric for roman shades. The search for art was a bust. I'm in a suburban area but might go into the city this weekend to see if I can do better.

Very talented you are to spray paint / dye lamps shades!! Interesting! I would not have thought to dye or paint paint though even though I often wish they were another color other than white/ ivory. Lol.

I would try the bombe chest on either wall. Hard to predict from your photos where it will look best. Maybe whichever is wider? It could be that since the dressers don't match, they will look better if they're not on the same wall. You may want to pull the bed a few inches away from the window wall just to give the bombe chest more visual space. You don't want it to look squashed in.

Wherever you decide, put the tall mirrored jewelry spinner on the other wall.

The bombe chest is perfect for a British Colonial look, as is the woven seagrass bed.

I detect an Asian feeling here. I would paint the dresser and bedside tables in a black lacquer to match the legs on the bed. Center the dresser under the two windows. Eliminate the other dresser and wall mount TV on an articulated arm. Add a wish bone chair in the corner and a pair of shoji lanterns on the dresser.

partim, thanks, unfortunately, prefer not to go the British colonial direction, but now see how the elements point that direction and I think that's what is making me nervous with this new bed. Was hoping the simple lines / natural material of the bed would add a more contemporary feel...

Probably time to post furniture items on FB marketplace, my garage is starting to look like a used furniture store as one by one I'm eliminating the furniture I brought with me from prior residence. Added tv rewiring to my electricians to do list. I also like that wishbone chair. Will post pictures of the attached small bath as I'm hoping items I add to bedroom can be cohesive with the bath. The bathroom mirror I'm hoping to replace with and oval one if I can find one small enough.

As recommended, dresser now centered under the windows. What seemed like a small detail to me is actually making a Big Difference for the better. You guys are awesome!

Yes I agree that chest does give it that feel. I was thinking the same thing about the room feeling British Colonial. But, I like that look. If you want to go more contemporary and light then, I agree that removing the chest would help.

A couple other suggestions: So again, going off the art that you choose, it might be nice to place an accent chair in the corner where the chest is now. Something like this mauve chair could be nice and would be a nice color to use in the room.

I also like these night stands if you wanted to do something different.

Also, loving these accents chairs for adding something sumptous and possibly adding an accent color.

Cecilia, thank you. I've been feeling quite frustrated and sad over this and appreciate your help very much! Love that chair & color too! Maybe I could find artwork with some of that mauve tone. I like those nightstands too, but am thinking to hold off on deciding on whether or not to keep mine.

I'm sorry you've been feeling frustrated and sad over all this. I don't think you can go too wrong if you choose some things you love. I think your nightstands could certainly work and the truth is, you don't have to rush to make a decision on that. :) . I also added a couple other chairs that I found that I thought could be nice. ;)
