Miele/Wolf ovens and preheat times
Comments (27)loves, I open the oven door and let it cool that way. If I were to leave the oven door closed, indeed the fan runs a while but not 1 1/2 hrs ! Yikes! I had read somewhere on the forum that you might injure the electronics by leaving the oven door open as it cools since I guess they were saying the hot air rising over the front controls would/could damage the innards. Well it doesn't say anything in the book about this and I have been doing it over a year. My ovens preheat really fast. I never start the preheat for say my bread , which I make at least 1x a week, until I have the loaves risen to double. My DH does preheat the baking stone for 30 min and also the Le Creuset pot when he makes Sullivan Bread. Other than that I have not done anything special about preheating or baking. The Miele have a lot of special modes so if you are using the probe you do put the meat in the oven as it is preheating and you follow the screen for the probe plug in etc. I have never had a failure in the ovens. If I bake, roast, rotisserie, cakes, cookies, bread ,quiche turkey etc everything has been prefect. I use the ovens a lot and am very happy with them. I have not baked 6 pans of cookies using both ovens, as we just don't eat cookies since there are no little ones anymore. I keep thinking though that I will try it to see if indeed the convection will brown/cook them all as it says it will. If I do I will be sure to post and let everyone know. caroline...See MoreMiele or Wolf/Bosch/Thermador for New House Build
Comments (12)Not too sure how much they sell but everytime I am in the store, there are always new Wolf ranges ready to be shipped out at the door and Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances boxed up. They don't display any of it so it is always special order. I've been able to see most of the stuff I want while in the store though. I purchased my last Wolf AG range from them and they install for free. Miele called me and installation sounds like it will be very expensive if I do it through a certified installer. The local shop is putting a quote together right now then I can compare to the Miele prices. I also checked into the SZ 700TC and there is really no price difference and they have never sold one so again, no experiance for service and install. In the end, I'm sure I'll be more than happy with either brand....See MorePrice Increase - Am I Being Mislead?
Comments (12)Bluestar raised their prices in Canada June 1/08 if memory serves correct. I bought before then!! :) God, I got such a SWEET deal on mine. Actually, on that subject. Since the CDN dollar plummeted so much lately(which i sooo predicted would happen.....damn, i should have bought US dollars a year ago). Anyway, it *may* be worth it for US residents in or near border towns to take a look into purchasing a Bluestar in Canada. When I purchased mine in the spring(08), when the CDN dollar was at about par with the greenback, I paid less than any price I had seen advertised in the US, and less than any price I had seen anyone on GW or elsewhere publicly admit to paying. Now that our dollar is a good 20-25% lower in value it may be very beneficial to try buying one here. I just thought about this scenerio....I know there has been talk about CDN Costco's having 30" RCS's for $2000CDN...I do remember hearing it has gone up to $2500 tho. But in any case, 2500x.80 is $2000 USD. I am not sure if I should post my price I paid for my 48" RNB, but if you could buy it anywhere close to what I had paid and factor in the current exchange, your head would spin!! lol...See MoreOven choice...Grinding teeth! Comments (85)A lot of bad info in recent comments... "Speed oven is a type of microwave." No. A speed oven is not at a microwave of any sort. Speed ovens are often combined with a microwave but the speed oven is totally different technology, usually light. Combi Speed/MW have an advantage in being able to use both technologies to produce food that is enjoyable to eat and retains nutritional value. "Microwaves give off radiation, destroys nutrients in food." No. From a purely nutritional standpoint cooking in a microwave is extremely good and preserves nutrients better than most forms of cooking. There are dozens or hundreds of studies on this that you can find online. That said, I don't like the taste and texture of microwaved food. For veggies steaming is nearly equally as good as microwave from a nutritional standpoint but produces more enjoyable food to eat. I also love to roast veggies but roasting does reduce the nutritional value significantly more than steam or MW. ---- From an overall health standpoint, ANY harm from a microwave (and we still don't know if there is or not) is likely far less than that from traditional cooking (induction, gas or electric coil) with a poor range exhaust hood that results in VOC's and Carcinogens spread throughout your house....See More2rickies
