Comments (9)This is my 3 year old Burlesque. It is a lot taller than listed on Heirloom; mine is easily 7 feet tall; It does not mind hard pruning in the Spring to keep it shorter. My pictures are taken in full sun, so the color is more deep mauve; in the evening near dusk, its color can become dark purplish as shown on Heirloom. Fragrance: Burlesque has a deep and warm, very attractive fragrance. In the first year, my Burlesque produced blooms that are more dark pink and white stripes, which is totally different than the picture on Heirloom. You can see in the picture, that it has streaks of white. I was disappointed; but its fragrance is so attractive, so I wanted to wait for it to be more mature. The color of the blooms in the third year is a lot deeper and darker; at times it does look like the picture on Heirloom. I had always loved its fragrance; its beauty grows in me. Especially when the color 'dotted' to accentuate other ligher color (peach, or cream) around; it gives the depth of your garden when look from far. I strongly recommend Burlesque. Comments (78)Thanks, @rosecanadian ... I think it'll be interesting, we'll see! The main limitation is lack of space, so any experiments I do will be small in scope, just a few dozen seeds at a time. @berrypiez6b thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the thread! I can totally imagine the breeders at DA and other big name pros, going "meh" and discarding a seedling that any hobbyist would be over the moon with! I heard that was the story with Eden. Supposedly, originally Meilland weren't sure about releasing Eden (at the time they had temporarily named it "Ingres"); they knew they had a good rose but its "look" wasn't in line with the trends of the day so they weren't sure it would sell. The story goes that a German seller was visiting their test garden and fell in love with Eden and pressed them to put it on the market, and the rest is history. If a rose like Eden almost didn't make it to market I can't even imagine the things they must be throwing out....See MoreDoes anyone have experience with these roses?
Comments (32)@lucianob2022 My BN is very healthy but it would be best to check nurseries or rose societies in your area to be safe. I have grown BN as a gorgeous, medium large, free standing shrub. It could just be deadheaded (it’s a bloom machine) and pruned annually for shape and size. It’s not a big Noisette. Definitely shrubby, even as a climber. Carol...See MoreRose Lai (9b)
