Tide HE powder vs. others
Comments (20)Most of these chemicals, on their own, would require great big warning labels. Well, I don't know about "most" - most of these are pretty innocuous, not just the obvious ones like sodium chloride, but also the mysterious ones like linalool (a plant oil extract). Emulsifying surfactants like sulfonated benzine salts appear in virtually all detergents, if they do not either (a) oils are dealt with another way, for example by a solvent, which is arguably harsher - even if it is a 'natural' solvent like citrus oil, or (b) some kind of oily dirts (especially petroleum oils) won't get clean. Ingredients are put into detergents for obvious functional reasons - for example, DTPMP is a scale inhibitor, which is common in European detergents because of the heating element in most European machines. Now, probably not having this is not a problem for most of us in the US, but I don't think companies should be faulted for addressing the needs of their customers the best way they know how! Honestly, I'm NOT a 'better living through chemistry' kind of guy; we like simple solutions for laundry problems (Fels soap, pine oil, hot water), and when I worked for the US EPA 25 years ago people made fun of me for wanting to don the space suit for the most innocuous spills. I just think that in the grand scheme of things, the chemical composition of Persil is not a big concern except for those very few people who have a specific allergy to particular ingredients. - DR...See More"THANK YOU" TO THE PERSON THAT MENTIONED TIDE + BLEACH POWDER
Comments (27)Oh my, did I create a stir! Lol. So I fill the instant pot up about half way with cold water, then add a little STPP to soften it. After about a minute or so I will add about 1tsp of Tide Liquid . Reasoning for this is because the enzymes will work in the warm water and eat any protein stains, etc out . Once this is mixed, I will add the washcloths and sometimes socks. I will turn it on to the Yogurt setting on 'less" which keeps the temperature quite low (~90ºF). I will let this soak for about 24 hrs, and keep stirring whenever I am around. After that period, I will turn it on to a higher setting and let it boil. At that point I do add some pure sodium percarbonate (raw oxiclean) and Tide Powder for a jumpstart. Typically I will let these sit in the IP for about an hour and let the oxygenated bleach power through the dingies! I then will wash these items with other whites like normal. Yes, people laugh about it when they see it, but I don't need to use bleach, and my whites still look good....See MoreTide w/ Bleach (Powder) vs Liquid Bleach

Comments (15)Regarding NOBS vs TAED, this chemistry company says NOBS is overall better. At 68°F (20°C): Sodium percarbonate + NOBS activates 100% in 1 minute. Sodium percarbonate + TAED is 100% after 20 minutes. Sodium Percarbonate alone is 30% after 1 minute but never becomes more active. The hotter the temperature, the less the difference will be, and I think eventually eliminated but I'm not sure.
