IMO the mirror doesn't compliment anything in your room. The room is very sophisticated and the mirror doesn't look on par with the room.

I might have considered a Demi Lune table for the space instead. They take up sell room.

Thank you so much for this visual, it’s so helpful and you’re absolutely right! I was wondering if I should stay away from all metal? I’m afraid to get something close for fear it might look like I tried to “match” but then “missed” the mark. I have a Demi lune table but didn’t like it there (probably just not the right one, it was left here in the house when we purchased so thought I’d try to use it). I really like the shapely mirror in photo 2, oval in #3 because considering something other than a rectangle shape felt like it might be right. Even though, I like the rectangular ones too! This has really helped me visualize my space better and perhaps I could have made a better choice for the console table…to stay within the confines of the molding, I had a difficult time finding something I liked. I appreciate your opinion and guidance! Thank you.

I assume the 53" measurement is between the edge of the molding and the corner. That doesn't look wide enough for the pieces you are considering, IMO. With a 53" wall, I would want a table no wider than 40". Then the mirror should be about 30" max. As for shape, I woulf go with an arch like the gate. This one is just under 30". I would use a pair of wrought iron brackets under it and top them with the material of your choice, custom cut to the right size. As for lighting, I would focus that on the interior of the wine room, which is the star of the foyer.

Well I absolutely love this mirror and think it would look great! Our wine room is more like a wine closet so focusing on that may not be the right thing. Instead of a table are you suggesting brackets and a top? I never would have thought of that unique solution.

Mirrors can look ok in an entry vestibule but in your case a mirror that would reflect your gate would be a great idea IMO. It is a nice gate and the more you can accentuate it the better.

Are you finding your entry too dark? It looks as though it gets plenty of natural light but perhaps the current lighting could be optimized with different bulbs? Do you need a rug in your entry? The floors are so beautiful and light-reflective; I wouldn't want to cover them if I didn't need to. :) Love Beverly's idea of a demi-lune table. I'd want to echo the gate and entry's arches somewhat.

I’m feeling like I should have checked in with HOUZZers before ordering anything! You’re all sending me great thoughts…lesson learned. Since my move here, I’ve wanted a rug. But I love my floors (then why do I want to cover them?) …I wanted to add color. We’ve removed the old-world looking swivel chairs from the wine closet and put up our wine barrel (came from our home in fingerlakes wine region).

I do feel that the entry is dark after the sun goes over the house and I wanted a welcoming feel in the foyer…thinking rug, table, lamp.

A mirror would not reflect the gate because it would be in the same wall.

The table I ordered is going to really fill that space and perhaps the scale won’t be right. The rug? I probably didn’t make the best choice on either. The rug should arrive this week so I’ll post pictures upon arrival. Table is going to take 16-20 weeks, perhaps I have time to reconsider or look for another spot for it.

Please keep the ideas coming! I really appreciate all the suggestions.

I (finally) have my space together. After my mom passed away last year I inherited a large, unique mirror and decided to use it here. The chest was pulled in from another room to help with color and I kept the decor on top simple. A bought a new hade for an old lamp, brought in a couple of books and agave sculpture I had bought a few years ago. I’m happy with the result, even though the lighting is dim, I realized I only need it in the evenings and so it is good enough. Dragging my feet on this small project allowed things to fall into place. What do you think?
