Does my induction cooktop shut itself down?
Comments (16)They'll all shut down if they get too hot. This is why ventilation is critical. There has to be enough space around the unit inside the cabinet for air to flow. Secondly, I believe the newer units act differently from the units of over 20 yrs ago. The pulsing of the old units was much slower and therefore noticable whereas today the pulsing is very fast. Which now sounds like a 'ticking' or 'clicking', or at higher power a 'whine'. And if your lights are dimming, it's because the service is too small. It is trying to pull more current than the circuit is set for and is dropping the house voltage as a result. The CB doesn't trip because the unit is pulsing and not pulling a steady overload current. That is, a 30-amp breaker doesn't 'break' at 31 amps. It requires an over-amperage for a certian amount of time before tripping....See MoreWhy Does My Phone Ring After I Hang Up?
Comments (5)Yes, you're right in what you said at the end of your post; this is coming from 3-way calling. Many phone companies have now enabled 3-way calling and all the other "custom calling features" on a pay-per-use basis, so your line probably does have 3-way calling enabled on it. This will not occur on all calls because if it is on your local exchange that you have gotten a busy signal, the phone company's computer is "smart" enough to know that you would not want to put a busy signal on hold and dial a second number. However, if the busy signal is on a long-distance number, your local phone company's computer doesn't know it's a busy signal, so it will let you put it on hold and dial a second number. You need to keep the phone hung up longer before making a second call. In some cases, you may be charged long distance for the call that's hearing a busy signal but is on hold, and in others you might be charged for a use of 3-way calling if it's on your line as a pay-per-use feature....See MoreMy condo.......
Comments (58)In my area there are different options for showing instructions. The most popular, because it is the easiest for the agent to set up showings is call/show/keybox. This means that the agent just needs to call the contact number, which is usually the seller's number, then either talk to the seller or leave a message that they will be showing the house. Then they go show it, letting themselves in with the keybox. The other options are appointment only/call seller, and call listing office/appointment only. As you can imagine, when an appointment must be set up through a third party - the listing agent - it makes it much more complicated for an agent who is trying to show up to a dozen homes in one day to schedule their time. I can't imagine trying to coordinate schedules if I had to call 5 or 6 agents, then wait to hear back from them while they call the sellers, and hope that the stars align and everyone is amenable to showing their homes according to schedule. (I am an assistant to an agent and I set up showings for her, and it makes my brain hurt to think of doing that!). Especially when the homes are not in close proximity to each other. So yes, you can request that all showings be scheduled through your agent, but know that if you do that you will most likely cut down on the number of showings you get. Otherwise, be prepared to have agents in your home at any time. It's no fun, but the quicker you sell your home the quicker it will be all over. And making your home easy to show should help it sell faster....See MoreHeed my advice--do NOT clean your oven today
Comments (60)UPDATE: On the Monday after Thanksgiving, I phoned Wolf CS and spoke with a service dept pro who assured me the tech coming the next day would evaluate the oven situation to see if a new control board was needed. When the tech came the next day, he removed the door, quickly made a slight adjustment, and all was fixed!! Just to make sure, he began the self-clean mode about five times. Each time the latch engaged properly and the oven began to heat. Hooray! Now I realize why the upper oven sounded differently than the lower when closing it. The side of the metal door was hitting the side of the oven cavity so what I was hearing was metal scraping metal. The lower door, since it didn't hit, made a satisfying, sturdy "thump" noise. The ovens were floor models and then sat in my garage for months before install. Who knows when the door came out of alignment. I can say that I am happy with the customer service I received from Wolf and from the nearly local repair company. On a funny side note, the repairman was very impressed that I thought to check the web about the oven latch, but even more so that a stranger would be so helpful as to suggest the "push against the door" technique that resolved the problem enough to open and use the ovens. Great job, Gary! I sung the praises of GW KF! Btw, every person I know IRL who heard about my ovens (and there were many) now knows that a GW friend named Gary came to my rescue! Thank you, again! On a sadder side note, the holiday wasn't as joyful as usual without my father. I appreciate the thoughtful messages from you all on this thread. Christmas is going to be even worse, but I'm determined to enjoy my kids and make their holiday a magical one....See MoreKorben Bergmann
