Does my induction cooktop shut itself down?

In another thread it was mentioned that an induction cooktop would get too hot and turn itself off. I thought mine was malfunctioning, but maybe it's being safe instead. If I use the high output "burner" on high for a while (cast iron pot or pan), it turns off.

Actually, I just assume it turns off. I don't think I could tell by feeling the pan! But it makes the beeping noise it makes when it doesn't have a pan on it.

Is it possible that the unit is getting too hot? Do I need to take the doors off my cabinets or something?
