I have seen "Extreme Cheapskates" on TLC. I think those people need serious mental help. And I do not mean that as an insult. I truly believe that they need help. I see how their compulsion to be cheap rules all, despite how miserable it makes everyone around them. Sad.

How about tv producers who are too cheap to pay writers to create an actual story with a plot, vs editing "reality" footage.

I don't pine for the white-bread suburban 60s/70s life I grew up in, but the tv sitcoms were a lot better!

I like to think I'm cheap... reusing HIGH end materials....but I spend tons of money when I can't find what i want and have to buy "new". ha ha

I don’t mind people being cheap, but not to the point that they do disgusting things.

I like the idea of bring frugal, not cheap, as a means to an end.

One mom did extreme couponing and was able to eventually afford her own home.

Another was able to save to go to Hawaii.

Some only have dicarded furniture in their homes, but, in some areas, this furniture can be really good quality.

I think some become obsessive.

Were the cucumber sandwiches and cucumber water supposed to be a meal? In my early days, wedding receptions I went to were short, alcohol free, with just coffee and punch to drink, cake, and very small cups of nuts and sweet tidbits to eat. Not an entire meal, at all, in fact I don't even recall seating, but there was probably some. No dancing either. Cucumber sandwiches would not have seemed cheap in this atmosphere. But if someone is thinking that small, crustless, cucumber sandwiches and water make a meal, they are mistaken.

Haven't seen the show but I remember a newspaper article once about frugality and whoever the cheapskate was said to always use the bathroom when you're out and about so you use less toilet paper and water at home. I've never forgotten that! But I don't adhere to it - I only use a public restroom if I have to!

Tangental: I just noticed that the "Mega" 6-pack of Northern TP I bought recently says each 3-ply square is 3.8" X 4". An older package on my shelf says each 3-ply square is 4' X 4". I think these were all originally 4.5" X 4". If so, the newest squares are only 84% as large as the 4.5" wide ones. Very sneaky, Georga Pacific Co.!

chisue many years ago I worked in an ad agency and we were supposed to promote the new "triple" size TP.. I forget the name of the company now, but one of the big ones. The roll was so big it wouldn't fit on most people's tp roll holder till they used quite a bit of it.

Those days are long gone now! A double roll is about the equivalent of a regular sized roll used to be. Of course the price didn't go down with the smaller sizing for sure!

matthias_lang I am not sure since there will be more about the wedding but the cucumbers were the main part of the meal from what I understood. She had a $750. budget for the whole wedding including the dress! I think she said the food came to about $20. She also bought some melons. She is using her chiropractors office as the venue. I really think this is all made up or at least I hope it is.

Better to go to the courthouse and spend the $750 on a party. I would think.

I don't think the cucumber sandwiches are a bad idea for an informal, small wedding. I had a tiny wedding and my mom and I made the food, mostly fried rice, possibly yakisoba (?) and fried lumpia from what I remember. But that was a hundred years ago when people didn't have crazy expensive weddings/baby showers, gender reveal parties, etc... The ex and I were dirt poor and my dad didn't pay for my wedding, by-the-way.
