A Bob Update
Comments (24)I saw Bob's missing toe tonight when they changed his dressing and almost puked! Thankfully the lighting in his room was kind of dim so he didn't notice that I turned a sickly shade of green. I won't sicken people with the details but if they can save his foot, it will be a miracle of science. He said the surgeon is going to have a specialist look at it on Monday to see if they can possibly save it. It looks like it is getting decent circulation and has shown signs of healing. The poor guy had to soak it in tub of benzoline(sp) and water tonight. He is such a brave and tough guy. I am happy when he is being a real smart aleck with the nurses because I know he is doing okay. And he has some great nurses too. They all seem to like him so much. I called a supervisor over the court inspection. I was telling her that Bob had heart surgery, cancer surgery and a horrible lung infection last year. He was hospitalized all summer long and into the fall. Then in the fall he was recuperating from it all. I said he really didn't have time or the ability to hire someone to work on his house until this spring. You know what she said? She said she would argue with that because there are people who will do outside house work in the winter. I don't know what kind of crack this woman is smoking but I don't see people working on a house in a foot of snow with their ladder in an icy alley. We had an early snowy and cold winter this year. Then the attorney Bob hired to represent him in court for this whole boondoggle is a real nasty piece of work. I never encountered such unfeeling, insensitive people in my entire life and trust me, I have met quite a few. These morons win the prize over Christopher Scarver the guy who killed serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in prison. He was always very polite to me when I worked with him. I just hope the work gets done on Bob's house, he recovers quickly (or I get power of attorney to handle his affairs) and we can get rid of that horrible house! Now I am worried about whether Bob will be able to stay in my apartment. There are $#&* stairs everywhere around here and no entrance that is close to the car that doesn't entail stairs. Thank you all for letting me vent about this stuff. I have been trying very hard to not worry about it but there seems to be one thing after another. You all are so wonderful! Bless you all!...See MoreIn Trouble (again) Registry?
Comments (49)Unbeknownst to its users, Webshots employed its Webshots Desktop Application (a free program that users can download from their site to manage their online pictures) to install the Kiwee Toolbar as part of a software update for this program. Other than the Wikipedia article (whose references don't appear to have anything to do with the surreptitious installation of Kiwee) and complaints in support forums about problems getting it off a computer, I don't see anything about it being forced on users. Was it one of the many tools bars included with software that installed by default but unchecking a box provided an opt-out? I just don't know. Although several of the search hits I saw included the word "unbeknownst" which leaves me wondering if they were written by the same person or several people parroting the others. In any case, it seems more a case of poorly written code and even poorer judgment on the part of American Greetings than malware. American Greetings does offer instructions on how to remove Kiwee although it sounds like you need to install the latest, greatest version first. I'm not sure I'd be jumping at at offer. Gosh Durn Mike ~ Don't be so rude & judgemental! I didn't get "glitter text" intentionally. Do you have any idea of the number of computers I've looked at with upwards of a half dozen different tools bars installed? Every user claimed they never installed them. Yes they did, when the went click, click, click without bothering to read what was on the screen. Now maybe I got up on my soapbox a little too soon and American Greetings did install poorly written software on their customers' computers without their customers knowledge or consent. If that is the case, I would be writing a nice letter to Mr. Weiss letting him know why he won't be getting any more of my money. Even if it meant giving up a really pretty screen saver....See MoreAny problems with Boyles?
Comments (13)Boyles Distinctive Furniture has been in business since 1949. To see how they compare with their competition, go to the Better Business Bureau's website. Boyles has several stores in North and South Carolina. Your shopping experience at the Jamestown/High Point Store begins when you contact a competent sales person/designer. If you do not have a referral for one, contact a store manager at 336-812-2200 and ask them to put you in touch with someone who is knowledgeable about the products, capable of handling your layouts, and willing to see the project through from the beginning to the delivery. Should any problems arise, you want a sales person who is going to return your phone calls and work with Boyles' customer service department to get your problem resolved quickly and to your satisfaction. In addition to manufacturer warranties already in place, Boyles has a 1 year warranty as well for manufacturer defects. Classic Moving and Storage is Boyles' own delivery service. They are famous for their "white glove delivery." The drivers are paid a bonus for not breaking your furniture. They are clean, courteous and competent. Another thing that sets Boyles apart from the competition is the acceptance of major credit cards for payment. This is a great way to rack up bonus points or air miles. Boyles has taken part in many humanitarian causes including the building of a Habitat for Humanity home, helping Hurricane Katrina victims by providing furniture for needy families, working through the DIY Network and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and many other charitable causes to lift the spirits of others. I have worked for Boyles Furniture since 2000 and everything I am saying about Boyles is factual. We are a company with integrity. We care about you and your project. Please contact us for the best possible buying experience. Thank you, Linda Cecil, IDS Associate, Sales/Design...See MoreRules for best height for hanging pictures and TV
Comments (17)GWlolo, here's a chart I found. 10 ft. (120 in.) 40-60" 12 ft. (144 in.) 48-72" 15 ft. or more 60+" You will probably be sitting about 13 feet from the TV, once you have the sectional in the room. So you could have a 55" screen or a 60" screen. (I've never heard anyone complain their TV was too big. I have heard people complain that their TV is too small.) What I would do is get the sectional and then either get the TV or at least decide on the TV size. Then cut a piece of cardboard to the size of the screen. Tape the cardboard mock-up to the wall at various heights and sit on the sofa to see what your sight lines are and if you have to tilt your head. Experiment until you find the height that works best for your family. Roughly, the higher it is, the further back you need to be in order not to have to tilt your head too much. But the size of the TV also comes into play here, as well. I don't think there's one best height for TVs. It really depends on your viewing angle, and that's going to be affected by how far you are from the TV, what you are sitting on and your own height. My brother, the engineer, had various pieces of cardboard stuck all over the walls of the family room at one point. Different sizes, to see how large a screen they needed. Different heights, to test the viewing angle. (My SIL is a saint.) They now have a 55" TV on top of some built-in shelving that is about 37" tall. High enough so the kids couldn't reach it (or hit it while playing with the Wii) when they were little, and at a comfortable height for watching from 16' away....See MoreJasdip
